What do you define as not too expensive?

I have no experience with this TV but have heard good reports about it - Samsung 26" £379

If you want a bigger screen...

This Samsung looks decent but again I do not have any experience with this TV

I have experience with this Panasonic 32" TV and its one of the best I have seen. I have the model up from this with 100Hz but it is not that nessasary, especially for the additional cost. Apart from the 100Hz, the TV is identical and for £600 (possibly cheaper if you shop around) I don't think you can beat it.

A 26" screen is big enough for a bedroom unless you are going for an 'episode of Cribs look'! A larger size will dominate the room. The Samsung 26" LCD tv is a good compromise between picture quality and cost. You could also consider the Sony BRAVIA KDL26P3020 or LG 26LC46 as alternatives.

Always go and view first in a shop, before making a decision.

Plenty to choose from under your budget. LG, Samsung and Panasonic are the ones to look for.

LG and Samsungs are often lower quality and poorer reliability than the Panasonics - having said that, the Panasonics are generally more expensive - the majority of the time, you get what you pay for. I'd personally stick with Sony or Panasonic.

For a budget of £450 you could get these:
Panasonic
Sony

Out of these the picture of the Panasonic is a slightly better than the Sony but it has less connections than the Sony.

If you could stretch to £500 you could get a lot more TV for your money. For example:
Panasonic
Sony

Personally I feel the Panasonic has a better picture quality but this is a personal choice and it is advisable to see both to decide which is best for you and just shop around until you find the best price.

Complete rubbish.

I'm a tv engineer, I see hundreds of tv's per week. I used to be of the opinion that Sony and Panasonic are the "cream" but after seeing their performance and picture quality in customers homes I changed my mind. I had many Panasonic CRT tv's and my aunt works for Sony but I chose a Samsung as it offered the best SD picture, excellent HD performance and a quality product with good value for money.

Others agree on here. Unfortunately, Panasonic and Sony dont rule the market.

1 thing to note is that Sony buy their screens from Samsung in a lot of cases.

Personally, go to currys etc and see the sets working, then decide. I strongly recommend NOT buying a set without seeing it in the flesh 1st. You wouldnt buy a car without driving it and the same principle applies.

An often mentioned error (a lie put about by Currys after they were stripped of their Sony account) - Sony haven't used any Samsung panels for a few years now.

I also see hundreds of TV a week, and Sony generally wipe the floor with Samsung ones - value for money?, that's a harder one - Sony might be better pictures and more reliable, but they are also more expensive!.

As you say, any purchaser should go and view them, and make up their own mind.
