With today being the anniversary of the worst civilian tragedy in American history, it seems appropriate to look back at that horrifying day & inform many of my Brit friends on this board of what actually happened to the BB2 USA HGs on that fateful day.

While just about everyone saw those planes crashing into the Twin Towers on TV...the 3 HGs left in the BB house - Will, Nicole & Monica - were initially kept in the dark. So the BB HGs may well have been the only adults in the country who were completely oblivious to what was going on.

Frantic phone calls were made between the BB producers & the network as to whether to cancel the remaining shows & whether to break the news to the HGs. Then the producers received a call from Monica's family informing them that her cousin (who worked in the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center) was still unaccounted for. That's when the producers (Arnold Shapiro & Allison Grodner) made the decision that they had a moral responsibility to tell Monica (& the rest of the HGs). The psychologists who work as consultants to the BB show were asked for their advice too.

Monica was first callled to the DR & was told (in very general terms) what had happened & about her cousin. Then the other two HGs were let in to the DR & told the news. No visuals of the tragedies in New York, Washington & Pennsylvania were shown to them.

The HGs were then given the choice to end the show & go home or continue. Monica's family was allowed to speak with her & they told her there wasn't any need for her to come home. (She was favored to win at that stage in the game - but came in 3rd place). All of the HGs decided decided to stay. Monica's cousin was never found.

The episode that was to be aired then was never shown (except on the CBS Internet site).

I remember watching the live feeds at the time & listening to the HGs discuss (with merely the barest of information at their disposal) what they thought had happened. I remember Nicole (who was a news junkie) mentioning that she thought "It had to have been Ben Laden" & Will saying: "The pilot on that crashed Pennsylvania flight (that was thought was headed for the White House ) "is a hero." The HGs really never fully comprehended the enormity of what had happened until after they left the BB House.

Can anyone truly know how the HGs felt when they discovered the full horror and puts all this fuss etc. into true perspective.

Will any of us ever forget those times and the images.

I am not a religious man, but I intend to say a prayer for all those involved then and since, this afternoon.

Thankyou for your post, Knowledgeseeker. I am sure that many fellow Brits who post or read this board will have remembered with deepfelt emotions that tragic day. I sincerely hope that the families of the victims have found their own ways to cope. They are not forgotten.

Thank you Knowledge Seeker for your message.

It was a terrible day for so many people and so unnecessary.

I will never forget that day as we had just had my mothers funeral and when we got back, just could not believe the pictures on the television. My own grief was overwhelming and my disbelief at what had happened, I just sat in front of the television in tears.

I will never forget that day.

God bless the families.
