Is my sony nwz-a818 MP3 player supposed to make a "rustling" sound when I turn it on?

I just bought a new nwz-a818 sony mp3 player but basically when I plug in the earphones and turn my MP3 player on I can hear a kind of soft rustling noise through the earphones, even when there is no song player. Is it supposed to make this noise as it really is distracting during quiet songs, although I can't hear it during loud songs. When I turn the MP3 player off the noise stops.

I've tried it with multiple earphones, it is alot worse with the in-ear headphones that came with the player, but I assume that is because they put the sound closer to the eardrum so I can just hear it more. But I can still hear it with my regular earphones so its not the earphones that are the problem.

I just wondered if it is normal to hear the noise, its like someone is gently blowing air. I just assumed that if no song is playing then there should be no noise going into the earphones, like I shouldn't even be able to notice if I unplug the earphones, but when I do unplug them the rustling sound goes and its alot quieter.

Sorry this post is so long! But could anyone with a nwz-a818 sony mp3 player check to see if they also hear a rustling sound through their earphones? It would be mucho appreciated!

Edit: Another word for the "rustling" would be a "hiss" I guess, more technical term

This isn't some form of blocking other noises out is it? White noise.

You can get headphones that do it.
