Hello.

I have today ordered a new HD ready TV as getting Sky HD on Sat. I also have an Xbox 360 core system. Will I be able to hook my 360 up to HD and will it display well or do I need a premium system?

Sorry if this sounds obvious but not very knowledgeable on technology!!!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Should work perfectly fine.

Newer Xbox 360s have HDMI ports and that would be you best option, if not then use Xbox 360 VGA cable.

HELP!!!

I last night set up my new TV and can’t seem to get my Xbox 360 core system working. On my old TV (about 6 years old) I just had one cable coming from 360 to the 3 audio bits on it (red, yellow and white) and the other cable from Xbox 360 to the big power cable. I then used to click through the av buttons and it played fine. Did all this again last night on new HD ready TV but can’t seem to find it. Also can only seem to find 2 slots for the 3 audio cables. Am I just doing something stupid like missing a cable out or something like that. Any advice, in normal English would be appreciated as not very clued up on all technical jargon.

Cheers,

Daniel

the cables which you're on about are whats called RCA cables yellow=video red&white =left&right audio. If you're using this method to connect the xbox to the tv, ensure that they're plugged into "inputs" which should be clearly marked. You should then find it by cycling through the AV options.

Thanks. As I have got rid of my video what do I do with the yellow cable now, just leave it hanging loose or does it need to go somewhere else?

I would wind it up like spaghetti and eat it with pesto. Yummy! Try using fresh parmesan though as this magnifies the basil flavour.

Looks like DS didn't like your link!
ok, to use the component video, you'll need this cable which should have come with your system. If this manual is to be believed, on page 8 there is a diagram showing where to plug the cables in using the using YPbPr and R/L audio signals. The are Red Green and Blue (grouped together) and White and Red. There should be one Yellow cable surplus to requirements.

On page 12, it says press source. You should navigate to, and select, YPbPr. It's best to do this with a DVD in the Xbox, then you'll know when you've found it.

Thanks paulmellers for all your help. Just managed to ring the supplier who put me in the direction of maplin. They have told me I need this adapter: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?...source=15&SD=Y sure I have got oe of these at home that I will be able to use. Its basically because this TV doesn't have the yellow plug bit. This should then solve me problem, I hope!!!

If you use that connector you will not get HD. You need to use the REd Green and Blue connectors and plug them into your TV into the sockets that should also be Red Green and Blue in colour.

that'll work, and one does come with the XBox, though i'd try the componant way i suggested first because it's free and the visuals will be much better quality!

As Paul has said, what you want is the xbox 360 component lead, this will then display a 1080p picture.....http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-...e/Product.html, but this will not upsale dvds... i

As the standard calbe that comes with the core pack (the one you used on your old tv) is a standatd picture.

But if you want to up scale your dvd's then I'd suggest getting the the VGA cable http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-...e/Product.html, then plug in the red and white leads into you tv, but this also will only output 720p.

Just remembered... when you get the cable you will have to change the disply setting within the xbox 360.

As for Sky HD.... thats simple its a HDMI lead. Only thing you have to decided is 1080i or 720p

Thanks for all the advice guys, really apprecaite it. I got my 360 off a mate at work and never got those cables (red, green blue) tried last night with an addapter to scart using red, yellow and white and whilst it worked the picture qulaity was rubbish and hardly any colours came through.

My mate is popping round with his wires he uses for 360-HD TV tonight to double check they all work in mine and if they do I will buy that cable I need.

Bloody confusing to me but hopefully getting there now!!!

Either they have put the wrong picture up as HDMI is 1 cable, with a rectangular shaped plug... as that is the same thing as the play lead, yet double the price!!!

Also it depends on how old your xbox 360 is. Old ones don't have a HDMI port on the back, new ones do....

The reason it has 5 cables, just for clarity, is 3 for picture and 2 for sound, there is also an optical jack at the other end of the cable to put an optical lead in and get 5.1 with a compatible amp.

Edit.... there is actually no official HDMI cable by Microsoft

Also the play cable is the cable I am running and it does output 1080p

These are the plugs you need at the back of your TV.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:C...video_jack.jpg
