Anyone ever received one of these? They tell you to phone up their premium rate line to find out who it is, then get you to put in the phone number of the person you think it is and it'll supposedly tell you if you're right or not. Surely these things are outright scams? I for one have never seen such a service advertised in magazines or newspapers (and no girls I know would be stupid enough to use one of these services to let their feelings be known to me in this lame way) so I can only assume the content of the text is an outright lie and the whole thing is a total scam.

Both myself and the hubbie have got one of these in the last week, we just deleted them. My poor Dad got one which my Mam read and she wanted to know what he had been subscribing to! I think my Mam was relieved when I said we had had them too and they were just like the unsolicited mail shots you get in the post.

Yes they are scams as far as I am concerned.

I got this a few days ago, I was tempted to ring the number but my message box was getting full so I just deleted it! LOL!

Think about it mate, you ring up, put the number in of the person you think it is, who then gets sent the same text and they ring up and put in someones number and the chain keeps running.

Maybe if you put in the right number of who gave your number then it will match you, but is it really worth it?

You should only contact ICSTIS if the price of the number is not clearly stated.

Any SMS asking your to phone a 09...... number should be treated with suspicion.

At least it's easy to tell these days after the number reorganisations in the past, as 'premium rate' numbers were originally mixed in with the national dialling codes, e.g. 0898.

Number codes starting with.
01 national codes (with some exceptions starting 02).
07 mobiles/pagers.
08 up to national rate.
09 premium rate services.
