BT Penalty Charge on final bill
Wayne814

Wonder if someone can help me here.

I have switched from BT to Orange as its in with my broadband.

My final bill from BT has came, its normally just the line rental as i rarely use the phone other than for the broadband, on the bill there is Penalty charges for termination of Fewe offer, which is nearly £75.

Anyone any idea what this is?

Ok spoke to BT, its Free evening and Weekend calls offer, which i apparently took out in February.

This is the first ive heard about this, never received a phone call offering it or a letter confirming it.

I remember a while back they sent a bill out with a big red section at the bottom that said "YES, I would like free calls", and a place for you to sign and send it back.

The small print said that you were signing up to a 12 month renewable contract for free weekends. So if you sent that off, that's what happened.

I didn't send anything off and im sure i never received anything either.

I wouldn't have took the offer up anyway, its rarely the line was used for phone calls as i only got it in for the internet and have just been paying the line rental. And there isn't a phone plugged into the line so they couldn't have phoned me about it either.

I would put a report in with the service teams so that the relevent request can be made for the call to be listened to. Remember an advisor adding a service on that has not been discussed with a customer is a sackable offence. Advisors are fully aware that calls are recorded so it's very unlikely for anyone in their sales team to do such a thing because they know they will be found out and the person placing the order for this evening/weekend plan will have left their mark in your account so that this person and therefore the call can easily be found and the outcome of the call

Thanks.

Ive already been in touch with them via email complaints about the matter, its now finally resolved and i don't have to pay the £75 charge.

I realised about the recording of the conversations and would have asked them to check it if need be, even though im certain ive never spoken to anyone from BT regarding the matter in the first place, as i imagine they would have phoned on the number of the line and there isn't a phone attached to it so i couldn't have spoken to them.

Glad you got it sorted you have to be very careful with BT nowadays they are constantly trying to make up the money they are losing with all the customers getting rid of their fixed lines.
