Shouldn't you be pressing "DVD/HDD dub"?.

Are you wanting to keep a copy of the dvd on the hdd,as well as making an additional dvd copy ?
If you just want to make another dvd copy, then go in to the dubbing menu and press the DVD backup button, and that will begin backup,it will then instruct you to insert a dvd and copy it to the dvd.
Once completed you have the choice of keeping it for another time or deleting it.(Note: it wont appear in the title list on the hdd)
Note:From the manual:You cannot dub from DVD VIDEOS or finalised DVD-RWs/DVD-Rs(Video mode)to the HDD
There are other exceptions, check page 98 of the manual.

what I'm actually wanting to do is copy it to HDD so i can put some chapter breaks in and possibly edit it

what exactly does this statement mean?
"TV system setting for recorder and disc do not match"

is it the part you've highlighted?

thanks

This usually means that the input tv settings ( NTSC or PAL) are different to the disk. You can copy an NTSC disk or a VHS to the hard drive and then on to a DVD but you won't be able to erase from the hard drive. You will get the same message. This is assuming that the disk you want to copy is not copy protected. Go back into the setup menu and try adjusting the input settings under tv system.

Here's another thought! Go into system menu and choose "dubbing".Then choose dvd/cd to hdd. Pop your disk in as requested and it should recognize whether the source disk is NTSC or Pal or Secam. You should then be able to copy to the hard drive and then onto a blank disk. However as I said before you won't be able to edit or erase the hard drive copy because the M/c will probably be set to PAL. I have successfully copied an Ntsc vhs tape to disk but then could not get rid of the hard drive recording for the same reasons. If you can manage to record direct to a blank disk, you will avoid the problem.
