Can anyone say if there's any use for szechuan pepper other than numbing your tongue? Can you get good taste from it in dishes?

Like nearly all peppers I would think it will work well with most tomato based dishes. Certainly the Chinese use a lot of it, which is funny because its named after one of their provinces.

Try mixing half and half black peppercorns with Szechuan peppercorns when you fill up your peppermill. it really gives just plain black pepper some real Uumph!!

Use it in a peppermill??, tried a few granuals raw and it's got a rather pungeunt taste and numbing effect would be good if you have mouth ulsers or toothache.

Think i'll try it cooked with some tomatoes

I have no idea why but I find it slightly sweeter and more aniseedy than white or black pepper.

It has got that Anise flavour/fragrance.
Too get good flavour roast the peppercorns then pound them.

A cheat is to use black pepper with 5 spice
