any help for a dodo!!
got the cable mod, hooked it up. pc doesn't recognise the disc ( i think) although it shows up in the hardware devices in control panel.is it suposed to?
do i need to use another program( ie. 9200treadfile or elinker) to transfer the files. if so will this recognise the drive.
i also tried using humaxrw to transfer all the recordings to a brand new 500gb drive. but all i got was a quick flash of a dos window and then nothing. any ideas?

Yes you need another program, and humaxrw is what I now use as it has more features.

But both this and 9200treadfile need to be run in a DOS box as they don't have a GUI. Hit Windows-R to get the run dialog, type "cmd" without the quotes, hit enter, and there is your command window. Use the cd command to go to where you have humaxrw.exe (remember that tab does path/name completion) and run humaxrw with no arguments to get the help.

You need to tell humaxrw the number of the Humax disk on the command line. You can look this up in the disk manager or just experiment!

Hi Paul, I just did the cable mod a few days ago myself, and WOW, what a difference! Anyway I just downloaded the latest version of HummyReadFiles (V.0 9 0 4) from the download section at Hummy.org and ran it as I would any other Windows prog - no messing with command prompt windows. The latest version also automatically detects the Hummy's hard drive.

to be honest i've tried that and the speeds are amazing.
no probs with that.
but i'm after copying the contents of my 160gb drive onto a shiney new 500gb drive as the wife won't watch all her recorded ' it's me or the dog'
the rate i'm going i'll have the drive sitting ,gathering dust for another year, until i empty this one...lol

humaxrw 2: -l
(that's lowercase L) should give you a listing

To copy number 5 in that list from the humax disk to the pc:

humaxrw 2: -g 5

There are other examples in the README.txt file which you would have downloaded in the humaxrw zip file.

The quickest way to copy all the files for one disk to another is to format the new disk in the Humax (if you have not already done this). Then connect both disks to the PC, that way you can transfer direct from one disk to the other. If you do not have the means to connect both disks at the same time, then you will have to copy the files onto the pc's disk and then copy them back onto the new disk.

Two Disk Method (assuming the old disk is disk 2 and the new disk 3)

Copy all files from disk 2 to disk 3
humaxrw 2: 3: -b
One Disk Method

Copy all files from disk 2 to the pc's disk
humaxrw 2: -b
Replace the Humax disk with the New Humax disk

Copy all files onto the new disk
humaxrw 2: -p "*.ts"
