Have you tried switching inputs?

Check video settings - have you got the DVD set to RGB but it's connected to a non RGB input.

What make is your DVD player?, there were a number of cheap ones (presumably all the same actual make?) that have this problem, they were made wrong - connecting them via AV phono leads is the easiest solution.

The DVD is a "Dual". yup a cheapo but a cracking bit of kit for playing DVIX and the likes.
I was thinking it maybe a compatabilty issue, but it has served me well with the TV I just replaced. Pana 26" flat screen.
Is there any mileage in upgrading the scarts ?

Probably more in downgrading them, to one that doesn't do RGB - have you tried it in all the SCART sockets on the TV?, sometimes not all include RGB.

Yup
tried switching both scarts around, took them out, cleaned, back in and switched again. Still same green screen when DVD power applied.
Checked settings on DVD and set output to RGB.
Ana"" pic, freview pic and sky pic are all superb, its just DVD thats really puzzling now.

Don't you have any phono leads to connect it with?, that will cure the problem - I'm assuming you've tried the DVD player in every SCART socket on the TV as I suggested?, in which case they must all be RGB.

There's nothing puzzling, the DVD player was made incorrectly, and has the green RGB pin permanently high, so you mustn't use RGB - try turning RGB off in the menu, although I'm not 100% sure that will cure it.

Thanks for the help so far, it is really appreciated.
I have a set of phono leads in the loft and will dig them out tomorrow ( I presume you mean the white/red or white/yellowjack type ? )
also have an adapter with 5 pin scart and input for yellow/red/white phono

Yes, the yellow is picture, and the red/white are the sound. Just a single cable to connect the yellow ones will prove it works OK.

Got it working via scart now.
Had a play with the DVD settings again and changed the video output to
scart/cvbs.
Not come across cvbs before, what is it?

Another name for composite.

ie. non-RBG SCART or AV (red/white/yellow) in.
