Don't bother to get the thomson get the Wharfedale Top Up TV 160GB Digital TV Recorder. 532/1722 from argos has the user friendy tutv software but in a wharfdale box. No probs so far no fan noise a lovely box. And you can have all the top up tv bits you want as same as the thomson but without the hassle.

I'm so glad Argos and Tesco sent me the wrong Thomson, I would have been gutted now

Humax are in Argos now for £99.99 and theres just no comparison according to all the reviews and stuff I've read

cheapest I'd seen before was £150 ( apart from refurbished)

wonder how many pvr's Thomson will sell when it finally does reach the shops...... ?

think they've missed the boat now with trying to fob people off with that old bag of tat to get rid of their old stock......

I guess it depends how many people want extra choice on top of the Freeview channels....the Humax can't provide Top Up TV Anytime

Thomson can't produce a box that stays up for any length of time, one that doesn't randomly reboot in the middle of doing nothing or when you delete programmes, or delete things in a decently swift fashion, that starts and finishes recordings according the the schedule, or has an EPG that isn't stuffed full of "To be announced". Finally they seem unable to produce a box that doesn't randomly dump you to some advert break near the start of the programme that you've seen twice already whenever you try to fast forward or rewind.

I've had a Humax for about 3 weeks and in that time it has needed rebooting 0 times, randomly rebooted 0 times, recorded everything I've asked it to record, started recording within about 10 seconds of the programme beginning and has not chopped the last 3 minutes off anything. It deletes stuff instantly. All in all, so far, it has just worked. Oh and it has a USB port on the front and it's easy to pull things off onto computer and edit them to chop out adverts etc.

I still have my Dti6300 but not for much longer, it's just waiting for my other half to finish watching her programmes on it and then it's going.

I still have my DHD4000 and I'll probably plug that back in and use that as a backup box. It too was a Thomson and is way better than the 6300. It still has a better EPG than both the Humax and the 6300.

I'm loving the Humax so far.

its such a shame Thomson couldnt follow the DHD 400, I still have 2 in the house, and havent had any problems over the 3 or 4 years, apart from the occasional unplug and plug in again when its frozen

I agree the EPG on the dhd is far superior to the humax, and I loved the way you could organise favourites, which is a bit complex on the humax

dhd was way ahead of its time, I just dont know why they removed all the best features and created the 6300....

I'm strangely missing the whirring of the hard drive.....its sooooo quiet !

That's all well and good, but I stand by what I say in that the Humax can not provide Top Up TV Anytime.

Don't care about the Humax, as it does not do what I want it to do....whereas the Thomson does.

I don't watch TUTV anytime. There is nothing of interest there for me.

Retailers will NOT idly sit by while customers return DTI6300s as unfit for purpose. TUTV will pay heavily for this fiasco

Is the Wharfedale Top Up TV 250GB at Argos any good as I'm fed up with adverts for TUTV and Setanta appearing when I switch on. Then have to press OK to get pass.

Yes it is good

But you will still get the adverts.....it uses the same user interface as the Thomson...as the Thomson & Wharfedale are designed with the Top Up TV Anytime service
