Should I have to Pay a deposit??
Ok guys got a Samsung V-200 new contract phone around 3-4weeks ago. It crashes non-stop and is hard to get started right from the box. And they can only work @ it, not refund the phone. Anyway I was impressed by the wee Motorola C315's and they are free on contract and upgrade. So I opted for a Upgrade and too keep the tariff the same. But now Orange are wanting a £250 deposit. I can understand paying a deposit for opening up many Accounts, but should I have to pay a deposit, for a simple upgrade, with keeping the same tariff. A deposit of £250 dos'nt bother me, its the 6-12 month waiting for the refund!

Well you need to have been with Orange for a minimum of about 6 months before you are eligible for a fee free upgrade. Since you've only been with them for 4 weeks then you haven't exactly earned your free Samsung have you? They have to subsidise the cost of the handset somehow, and keeping you to a minimum length of contract does that.

The Samsung phone was'nt free. And I contacted the supplier, who siad that a New Handset was avaible with a upgrade and off-course the price of the mobile. Which is irrelvant to the Deposit charge for Data Protection.

Actually Orange are probably being a bit more helpful than most. I know that when I tried to upgrade about 2 months into my contract O2 wanted me to pay off the entire rest of the cost of the phone. It was a 3510 that was free so they wanted me to pay about £150 (it cost that sim-free at the time apparently), and then also pay the cost of the new handset. At least with Orange it would seem that once you've lived out your full 12 months contract that they will give you your money back.
You see you've only been on your contract for about a month. That means that the line rental for that month has gone towards the cost of the phone. The reason why networks put minimum terms on contracts is so that they can make sure that you stay with them for the full amount of time necessary to pay off the cost of the phone. Now because Orange are now giving you two phones when you haven't reached your full 12 months yet, they are putting this deposit down so that if you pull out of the contract at any time before the phone is paid off, they have your deposit to subsidise the handset. Once you've completed your minimum term then you would be eligible for a "free" upgrade anyway, which would be the Motorola, so they'll pay back the deposit then. I ain't really from Bangor, just a little corner of the countryside nearby! (Thank goodness!) |

yeah, i'm with PhattMatt, we are now trusting you not to run off with 2 phones rather than one!!!
If you have 2 similar faults with the same model of handset, and REQUEST it, we will give you a Different Model Replacement, in this case a Panasonic GD87e. If you have reported the problem with the V200 before your 28 day period, (and this has to be evidenced by a CSR running an Issac action on it) then you are eligible for a repacement even if you dont have insurance, dont let them tell you otherwise, Insist and you shall get. |
