Yes its safe, i turn my Samsung lcd off at the mains each night and it doesnt lose any settings.
When i had a Sony RDR-GX210 dvd recorder i used to hear an annoying high pitched sound when it was in standby, i never found out what it was though. fortunatly my samsung lcd tv doesnt have that problem. |

If it's under Guarantee I would get it checked as it's not normal! it is designed to be left in standby, I have had my LE40M86 for 18 months now & have never heard a sound from it in standby. It sounds like a capacitor draining if it slowly dies when turned off.

ye its just a buzzing sound on standby, not very loud but enough to annoy me
i can fiddle around with setings when the tv is on to make the sound lower but it sohuldnt do it in the first place |

I was working for BRMB radio in Birmingham for a few months, a few years ago, and a lot of the younger people were complaining that a monitor was making a hell of a racket. I investigated and found no fault, no extraneous noise whatsoever.
They said it was a high frequency whine so I checked with a sound engineer, who proved that my hearing was no longer sensitive to such a high frequence, but that I had normal hearing. The young people were with me, and said that they could still hear the test signal, for a further 4-7Khz beyond my own. So, the answer might be - grow old quickly
