She sounded like she was doing an impression of Amy Winehouse, not singing her own style. I thought she had a great voice but would have preferred to hear her doing something unrelated to Amy. She needs to drop the impersonation.

I agree its very exaggerated, although I do like Amy Winehouse's singing .

She does not need to drop anything.
She obviously is doing fine as she has reached the next round and she will continue to the end.
She has impressed all four judges. Who are all in the music industry. Especially Simon, when Simon can give a singer recognition the way he has with her it means a lot.
He most definitely would not tell her to drop anything, more likely to get her more fine tuned and to work on her nerves.
I'd hate for her to change her voice is great as it is...She's not impersonating she just sounds like Wino....Her sound is very distinctive...You heard the judges they love her!!

She only sounded like that bec ause she was doing a winehouse song and they do have similar voices. It can be hard to differentiate when these factors are in play. Thats why i said she needs to do other songs- not just winehouse songs.
You could hear that her tone is different to winehouse anyway. And im in no doubt she wasnt trying to sound like her- i think that voice is natural. Her speaking voice also sounds abit like winehouse so its not surprising. Also winehouse sounds 'black'.
Leona sounded like mariah singing mariah songs on the show, but on her own songs their tones sound nothing alike. I think its the same thing here.

....so her voice was 'OK' and her story endearing.....but theres a hundred and one other chics in south london or wherever she's from with greater voices and more tragic stories. Seriously...she not that special.

I don't think Leon sounded like Michael Buble though he sang the songs the same way, using his phrasing. With Rachel she sounded like she was impersonating Amy although she has a great voice(IMO). I thought she was going to sound more like Macey Gray when I heard her speaking voice. Don't get me wrong, I think she's talented
but would like to hear her sing something else.
She is good but in no way deserved all the praise she got. Like it or not, she will be pushed as the Winehouse-alike because there is nothing the X Factor does better than jumping on a bandwagon that is already full.

...she has limited mileage anyway.....even if she was super brilliant, won every heat and won in the final.....she could never go to the USA because of her criminal record so she'd have a pretty limited audience from the get go.

I hope you're right. Fantasia managed to conquer the Americans but just remember how judgemental people in the UK can be...unfortunately.

Although it is difficult it is possible as long as you declare your criminal record they can then make a decision based on that however they can also refuse entry most countries are the same.

Well if amy winehouse can win 5 grammys over there and sell so well and shes got a drug habbit NOW, then i dont see why rachel cant if her drugs are behind her.
