There's no need for fans to have websites when Kate is on the Radio and TV nearly every day of the week. Alex is in a different position, he does need the websites, having very little Radio or TV exposure. ”

Your reasoning doesn't stand up... Most popular showbusiness people have web sites in spite of appearing frequently on TV. Fan web sites report on press coverage, archive of material related to that person, ... interchange comments.. and so on.

News appear everyday on TV and Radio and that doesn't stop News websites being published..

It is quite nice to have another BB romance though-they seem to be quite enduring. There we were waiting for BB4 to turn up a pair and it turns out to be a BB1+BB3 crosspairing.
Is this allowed in the contract? The 5 year contract isn't over yet.
”

You failed to mention the Nasty Nick and Justine pairing. That's BB1 + BB4. That's if we are to believe that romance.

Ok!....................let's compare Alex and Kate's current dedicated running websites in a different way.
Kate hasn't got any and Alex has one. Doesn't sound so impressive when you say it like that does it?

Ok!....................let's compare Alex and Kate's current dedicated running websites in a different way.

Kate has apparently a strong following with youngsters. Youngsters are very industrious when it comes to fan sites... (I can provide you with numerous fan sites ran by teenagers) and Kate did have some fan sites while in the house... but they stopped being updated as far back as August last year.

This suggest to me that in spite of being apparently so widely liked even within very specific groups... she doesn't inspire loyalty beyond a limited commitment from her fan base.

On the other hand, Alex also did have several fan sites and some of them faded away when the official one was clearly favoured by Alex.

The official site has had a steady following... and it's not by any stretch of the imagination a club for a bunch of delluded bored old ladies as Avolon likes to think. In fact it's a very varied mix. That this site has managed to survive for more than a year is a big achievement in my opinion and having a look at other fan sites dedicated to BB contestants you would have to agree It's alive and kicking.

I don't know what will happen in a year time with Alex site. What it's evident for most people visiting is that people contributing to the site are intelligent and game for a bit of fun. There is a common link that is Alex, but as a community has evolved beyond that point.

Also the fact you are still discussing Alex (in spite of you mentioning "his lack of a job on radio or TV") seems to me proof enough that you want it or no... he is here to stay. The same goes for Kate.

FYI.. 16.7 MB bandwidth per day is easily reached. So don't get too excited. That site uses frames and a lot of images that are not even optimized for web use. ie. the top image in the upper frame is 48000 bytes. So it can only take as few as 10 of us to send the site in overdrive

Page View - A page view is tracked when a page with the counter on it is fully loaded into the visitors web browser.
Unique Visitor - A unique visitor is defined as a visitor that has not visited the web site in the past 24 hours.

Points to consider...

Frequent users often enter the site using a direck link to favourite section like a forum. I.e. I hardly ever visit DS home page

Traffic is increased by specific events. I.e. if the person appears on a TV show or press article is likely this will be translated into an increase in the number of people visiting the site.

The data for Alex site only aknowledges visits after BB3 finished (counter was implemented in August). Traffic to contestants sites should be significantly higher during the show for obvious reasons.
Bystander ... I hope these figures make things a bit more clear for you

it's no use trying to blind us with science, tamara

On Our Katie's site it says " Counter has changed. Please do something or other.........."

I read this to mean that the counter was whizzing round so fast that they had to change it.

I'll freely admit, however, that I'm not that well up with the jargon

I just tried to look myself, it says the daily bandwidth for this customer has been exceeded.
As, from the stats above from Tamara, Kate's site does not get as many hits as Alex's and this never happens on his, I take it that the webmaster has not invested in enough bandwith and is not sufficiently bothered to pay for more?
I'm not really up on all this either but that would be my guess.

Swing...

Nice try... but counter code has changed recently (9 July 2003). Even taking into account the code has changed, the counter still collects data from visitors... so no... your attempt to pull some wool over my eyes has failed miserably... try harder next time.

I could explain exactly what the changes are... but to simplify matters just pointing out that the new script is a more simplified version that doesn't need to pull the image as this is part of the script served by Bravenet itself. In simple terms... Counters no longer have images, all counters are based on plain text.

It simplifies the work at their end and therefore they would prefer sites implementing this.. that's the reason for the image with the warning.

You could check for yourself in this page about updates to the services offered by Bravenet

Not changing this simple thing ... only adds more weight to the hard facts about Kate's site .. the webmaster doesn't even bother to make a simple change in it's front page... how sad!!

I'm not sure how these things work but I do know that Alex's site is a paid-up Gold Community which means that no ads ever appear on the site- ie. no ads posted but I've never had a single pop-up either which is more than you can say for most sites.

Agree, Anon2

Edna...

Ezboard is only an online application, enabling businesses and individuals to build, join and participate in customized and personalized discussion groups.

If you got spyware while visiting an ezboard community is the responsability of that community, no Ezboard or other communities using the application provided by Ezboard. In fact, the use of spyware is against Ezboard user terms and conditions: "upload, post, email or otherwise transmit any Content that contains software viruses, Trojan horses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment".

Just as an example... If I posted a link to a page that prompts you to install one of these programs, DS wouldn't be liable for me posting the link and you clicking and accepting the installation of such programs.

So to avoid problems in the future with spyware and adware....

Adjust the security settings in Internet Explorer and whatever other Web browser(s) you use so that they prompt you before downloading even those ActiveX controls that are signed and marked as safe. There is nothing inherently "bad" about ActiveX controls. Many legitimate programs such as virus scanners, Windows Update... use ActiveX technology. The purpose of changing this setting is simply to stop ActiveX components from installing themselves without your knowledge or consent.

Once you've changed the settings, if a dialogue box pops up out of nowhere while you are browsing the Internet and asks if you would like to install some "free" program that you didn't ask for and don't recognize, say "No."

Install a good firewall. A firewall prevents unauthorized computers from connecting to yours, and prevents unrecognized programs on your computer from connecting to the Internet to "phone home."
Which programs contain spyware?

Some of the most popular programs on the Internet are also among the worst offenders in terms of installing adware or spyware on your computer. Here's only a very small list:

Atom Wire, Audiogalaxy Satellite, BearShare, Bonzi Buddy, Brilliant Digital, Comet Cursor, ComTry, Gator, Global Divx Player, Go MP3, Go!Zilla, Grokster, iMesh, KaZaa, LimeWire, Napster, NeoNapster, Morpheus, QC Toolbar, QTrax, Swaptor, and XoloX... and there are literally thousands more.

Really?

Picture 1 - Alex looks a bit strange, not exactly deliriously happy.
Mel is doing a " smile for the camera darlin' ".

Picture 2 - Mel is doing a continuation of her "smile for the camera darlin' ".
Alex is looking at something more interesting going on in the crowd.

Picture 3 - Mel looks like she's been asked an embarrassing question by the photographer, while Alex is laughing at her discomfort.
