Fitting new hard disk to Panasonic PVR's

Hi I have a Panasonic DMR E85 which i would like to fit a larger hard drive, say 250GB, or even 500GB.

Can one do this, does the hard drive need to be formatted or can i put a fresh one in and switch on?

Many thanks

Michael

I'm sure it can be done. Whip the lid off and find out what kinda drive you have and what kinda bus (SATA etc) it is and swap them over. I'm not sure about formatting or firmware that it would need but it will defo be do-able.

After a quick google this seems to be the answer.

The link given above is for the USA version which came with an 120Gb drive, the European versions came with an 80Gb drive.

The drive is IDE, 5400 RPM, you can fit bigger drives but the onboard BIOS will only recognise 80Gb, so not worth the effort.

From an E85 owner.

Has anyone ever tried to swap out a hard drive - does it always reformat the relacement drive - or could you have several drives - with stuff on - to swap in and out - if you understand!

Could you even have a swapable caddy system?
