Just realised its mainly for indoors, but I've heard of people having the same sort of alarm for outdoors.

Why should I spend money on the bloody things? They are not my responsibility. If they are too thick to realise bleach might not taste nice again not my problem. I sure as hell wont be going to buy them a litter tray! Does no one else see how ridiculous that sounds? They are not mine for goodness sake.

I dont want a cat. I want them to stop shitting and raking my buckets preferably with no or minimal cost to my wallet.

well why come on a forum and ask for help then criticise people for trying to help?

Because I thought I would get some objective, sane advice! Not "buy it a litter tray", "spend money on a posh bucket" as if its not the cats thats the problem.

Well that is never going to happen unless you kill them. Is that what you want someone to advise you to do?

No. There has to be something else but to be honest they are an anti-social nuisance so an ASBO is hardly going to work is it?

Tbh the only possible thing which could work other than you buying something or killing them is to-

1/Put a house brick on your bin lids
2/Squirt them with some water from a water gun when they come into your garden

Other than that I don't think anything else would work (unless you buy something).

I dont have 24 hours spare a day to monitor my buckets.

I apologise for constructively trying to help you. I just understand the workings of a cat mind, and am offering suggestions that will help you with the minimal effort on your behalf. I just hope that you show more appreciation to really helpful replies from people who have bothered to think about your predicament, and tried to come up with a solution to actually help you in some way.

A cat is a cat, and believe it or not, they are not subject what a mere human requests. They please themselves. Humans never rule cats it is the other way round and it has always been that way, so in answer to your question "When did cats start ruling the world?" The moment we humans started feeding them.

As for you "being human and therefore superior to a flea ridden mog", its just a matter of whether you are a cat, and what your personal opinion is. I know I have my own opinion on that matter.

Maybe what you need is for someone to wave a magic wand and the problem will disappear.

FFS. I have just wasted my time, what do you want a magic spell to make the problem go away? If you were bothered that much you would at least make some effort or shell out some cash, you strike me as someone who just likes to moan tbh as no solution on here has been good enough for you even to consider.

Considering humans have done far more damage to this planet than cats have, you might want to reconsider how superior and better we as a species are, but that's an argument for another day

Have you tried getting those anti-cat crystals? Usually sold to keep cats out of your garden.

The solutions I have had so far is

-Buy a water gun and police my buckets
- Buy a cat litter tray (still laughing at this one)
- Buy some sonar device
- Buy some specialised bucket

The only sensible one is the brick but thats no use when the bucket is full and the other rubbish has to go out.

I don't like it when I feel like I have wasted my time. Why should people be bothered to help you when you can't be bothered to spend any of your time and money?

I put a link in my other post, you usually get them in garden centres I think. The ones I linked to say they emit strong odours that confuse cats (and dogs) and after about a week or so they can't stand it and so move away. Might be worth a go, they don't break the bank if it doesn't, just sprinkle them around your bins and hope for the best. My Gran used to use them on her garden, and she didn't have a cat problem at all.

The fact that Humans are superior to cats- its not even a question! You seemed to infer it was relative and that "you had your own view on it" which to me suggested that you were somewhat questioning it!

Because it is nuisance cats! Seriously- can you not see the craziness of telling someone to buy a cat litter tray?

From the Cats point of view they are superior. Ask any cat owner. in fact ask them who owns who, I bet most will say the cat owns them. They think they are superior.

I will attempt to try to explain things logically.

Whilst you leave food waste in the bins they will keep coming back to eat the food. As long as there is food to eat. So putting the food waste in a secure bin will stop this after a while. Which is why I suggested using a bin with clips on, also I suggested bungees, on a normal bin to make it secure (I know these are not expensive and readily available in pound shops) or using bricks on the top.

The litter tray also cost about £1 from the pound shop, and should eliminate them leaving you poo on the patio, they will prefer it to the ground. You can put dirt in it. But if you would rather not try this I accept that, but expect the poo to remain. You could also use cardboard boxes, but they will break up, and you will need to keep getting more.

I have only offered suggestions that are not overly expensive and will involve limited maintainance by you to solve a problem you have.

I am looking through the mind of a human and the logic of a cat. And being 100% honest, you may never totally rid of them, but encourage them to act more by the wishes you have. None of this will work overnight, as they are used to coming to your bins to eat, for them its like the canteen, which is why I mentioned that the food is the key to the problem.

Using bleach will have no effect it will encourage them to pee and poo, as it contains amonia, pee also contains amonia. They will pee and poo to mark their territory. Which is why they need an appropriate place to poo.

When they start getting no meals, they will go elsewhere, and then occasionally pop round to see whats on offer in the bins. So keep up with the secure food waste, or they will return.

I know the cat logic is a bit weird, but all of us that have them will agree on most of these suggestions.

Entirely agree with this, I have two of the little buggers and they are so up themselves its unbelievable, one managed to turf me off my chair earlier!
