Teac reference systems
Nick Arthur
19-08-2008
Im a bit of a techno phobe so stick with me a moment. I bought a Teac system about 10 years ago or more.It was when reference systems were new, Teac did two at the time- i bought the larger one- maybe it was called a teac 500? anyway its been fantastic over the years and im sure people will laugh at its age etc, but it still serves its purpose for me. My question is that the speakers are damaged beyond repair and i dont really know where to start to match up a decent set of speakers for a small terraced house living room. I dont need to boom or shake a room- just happily listen to my music at normal volumes in a small room- any polite suggestions?

I'm no expert on your specific system - I considered the Reference range when looking for a small system for the bedroom way back when but ended up going for the Denon DM30 (which is still going strong!). I would reckon trying something like the Tannoy Mercury F1 Custom, widely available for less than £100.00. Should be a good match for your system.

nice bit of kit, mine eventually gave out on me but for years I used it paired with B&W 600 series speakers, and was very happy with the sound

My brother-in-law has the larger 500 series - and my daughter has the 300 - but with the slightly newer DAB Radio option.

When both were thinking of upgrading their speakers a year or so ago (they didn't because of other expenses) the 'Best' modest buy has the Wharfedale Diamond 9.2 (for the 500) and the 9.1 for the 300 ( both sets are slightly curved)

There may be better buys now though.

The 9.2 were 199 Quid and the 9.1 129quid I think

Cheers, daveac
