I think that the other providers are checking the demand for the 3g phones to see if the new tecnology will catch on.... Does anyone know if the 3 sim card can work in any other phones i.e. voice calls?

Because I have had to pass my complaint about 3 to Oftel because 3 are still sending me bills for a service I never used and I had given my phone back under 14 day returns without ever making a call. That was back in April only 6 F****** months ago! Phoning up customers services is like talking to a brick wall.

Should you have any problems with 3 I wish you good luck cos youll need it!

You can find info on what 2 and 2.5G phones will work with a 3 sim cards here. 2G / 2.5G phones with 3G Sim cards.

I would stay well away from 3 though! Have a look at my previous post.

Orange are currently trialing their 3G service, mainly internally, with Nokia 6650s, although coverage is limited to citys like Bristol and London.

Commercial roll-out is supposedly late 2004

The Quoted speed is 128kbps, however a quick software mod to the phone allows you to play half-life on a train with a laptop at 384kbps, letting you have possibly the lowest ping on the server!!

If we get told any more at work i'll let you guys know.

On the subject of Hutchinson 3G, remember that although video to video calling is nice, how many people do you know with a phone that can do it? and that with H3G you cant send Picture messages to any other network!

The tarrifs are so good because they are loss leaders designed to build a customer base from scratch before the incumbent networks launch their 3G sevices.

O2 wont be doing anything. They sold their license to British Telecom. And If I remember correctly, Vodafone sold theirs to someone too, but I am not sure about that one. O2 definetly sold theirs. It was in the financial times a while back.

Really Show me the link!

O2 were part of BT a few years ago, O2 paid off most of the 3G debt last year. They still have their licence as do Vodafone.

Somehow I can't imagine vodafone selling their 3G license - they were the first and highest bidders, they're desparate for something to halt the market saturation...
