Green tomatoes
At the moment my greenhouse is awash with green tomatoes. Most recipes using them seem to be for relishes or pickles, something that would never get eaten in our house and, besides, I don't have any Kilner jars. So any suggestions for any other recipes?
EDIT And this was meant to be in the food forum. Perhaps some kind mod will move it. |

Do you mean proper green tomatoes or unripe ones?
If they are the real green ones then they are lovely fried . |

I made some green tomato chutney last year, it was lovely. You don't need kilner jars, I saved up old jam jars and sterilised them in boiling water.
Have'nt grow any tomatoes this year, glad I did'nt, with all this rain. |

Poke sticks in them, dip them in toffee and flog them to unsuspecting children as Toffee Apples.

Put them in a brown paper bag with a ripe tom from the shop (or a banana I'm told) and they'll ripen up within a few days. Another method for ripening is to put the vine in water on a sunny window seemingly, but I didn't get good results when I tried, the paper bag worked much better.
When I was reading about it I discovered that the big businesses transport them green as it's easier and ripen them when they arrive in the country - seemingly you can even store them while green for up to 6 months and ripen whenever you like, if you get the right temps and storage conditions. There's a few articles on it online, but haven't tried that myself. Can you tell I had a fully green crop last year!

Well i picked our first cherry tomatos a couple of weeks ago, but stupid me though pick an entire vine of 8 or whatever (like you can buy in tesco) at once. Most were red, but there were a couple still totally green. I've left the green ones on the window sill and amazingly even the entirely green one is starting to go red now. Really7 suprised.

Use them to make a salsa and then use it for Huevos divorciados.
