I was talking about this and we didn't know. Google wasn't much help either

For dietry purposes I have been told between 6 months and a year (think I am supposed to feed my little one her kitten food until she is over a year)

I guess I just want to know what age they are fully grown?

Our cat was a year old in May. She's never been a very big kitten or cat but she definitely stopped growing between April and June time. So I would say fully grown by a year.

But then I also have a 3 year old tom and he seemed to just grow and grow until he was about 2. But then he's much bigger anyway being a tom.

I've always thought of cats being kittens until a year old.

My cat is 14 months old and when we took her to the vets recently the Vet mentioned that she wouldn't get any bigger and she would stay the size she is now for life. I took that as an indication of adulthood.

She was on Kitten food and is now on normal adult food, no problems with the transition either.

When my kitten was little I was always told it was 1 year and above, although he was 18 months old when I finally admitted he was an adult cat!
I put him on adult food around about 1 year.

He stopped growing at around 18 months, he was far too tall and long to be called a kitten any longer!

I think its an adult cat at 6 months old.

Some breeds, like Ragdolls, can take up to 4 years before reaching full size.

Most cats it's a year.

I had a cat who went on heat for the first time at 7 months and gave birth at 9 months....however could have been described as a teenage pregnancy!

Well I've been advised my little one should be spayed aged 5.5 / 6 months as they can get pregnant from that age

And I don't want my poor little Amber getting knocked up

Just kind of wondered when she would stop growing and be full size etc... she's only 4 months and still teeny (well teeny thin but she's actually quite "long" )

Also wondered when I would get a full nights sleep LOL

Kittens become cats as soon as they can get served for fish-heads without being ID'd.

The first year in a cats (and dogs life) is always where they age the quickest, the old '7 years = 1 human year' thing you hear alot isn't true really.

At 6 months a cat is said to be equivalent to a 13 year old human (so could easily be fertile) and at 1 year old a cat is said to be 21 years old (roughly though guess depends on breeds).

They are sexually mature at around 5/6 months so you are best getting her spayed and quick...

For spaying purposes, it dosen't matter when they reach adulthood (5 and a half months to 6 months) as someone else has said, they can get pregnant at this age.
Cats are considered as adult once they reach nine months of age.
