Sony Blu-Ray player - does it come with a HDMI cable?

Just wondering, If I purchased a Sony Blu-Ray player would I also need to get a HDMi cable as well? I was thinking I would but a mate of mine disagrees with me and says there is one in the box.

Sony wont provide an HDMI lead - they dont even supply one with the PS3.

Depending on where you buy it you might get one thrown in by the retailer but you wont get one from Sony.

No there's not, on all those I've delivered I've taken a free one along with it.

Late May I bought the new Sony BD 500 Blu- Ray from the local Sony Store.

AND I had to buy the HDMI cable separatly from the same shop for £35

No, you dont get extras for nothing with Sony. They are too damned mean these days anyway.

I got the Sony BDS300 for £50 when I got a Sony TV at the local sony centre and they wanted £35 or upwards for an HDMI lead.... they did try but I kindly declined (hahahahha) but I find the £7 econocrap thing from Tescos still manages to convey those 1's and 0's quite perfectly.

Don't let them convince you to buy an expensive HDMI lead (unless you're looking at a long distance) as it's a waste of money.

If you're looking at getting the BDS300 Sony, be prepared for the slowest player in history! - from pressing power button it takes 60secs before Sony logo appears then about another 20secs to open the drawer then another 35 seconds for it to read the disc and display a menu option/opening titles. You really can make a cup of tea while this player starts up.

Mines going on Ebay soon!

The slowest player in history!

I often wonder why we get lots of subsequent posts saying the same thing when the query gets answered in post 2

Hi, you are correct, there is no HDMI lead in the box.
If you are looking at the BDP S300 or S500 models, wait for the newer models being released S350 and S550 respectively, the S350 is a very good budget deck, Although the player is only Profile 1.1 out of the box, Sony will be releasing a Profile 2.0 firmware update shortly after launch.
The player’s menu system features Sony’s new Xross Media Bar (XMB), which will be familiar to all you PS3 owners. It’s nice to look at and easy to navigate.

On the picture front, the BDP-S350 outputs 1080p/24fps images and can upscale standard-definition DVDs to 1080p. All HD audio formats can be output as Bitstream.

Alternatively, it can decode HD audio formats internally, apart from DTS-HD Master Audio, and output them as LPCM. There are no multichannel analogue outputs.

This is the player I would go for personally.

Thanks for that bit of info - any idea on a launch date for these?
