Protein Shake
Do they really work and are they worth what they cost?

If you wish to consume large amounts of protein, they I would imagine that they do.

I've never heard of them, but I'd seriously doubt that they were worth whatever they cost. Proteins are broken down to their constituent amino acids in the digestive tract so the original protein should be irrelevant, except for the proportion of each amino acid that it contains. So what particular (and no doubt exaggerated) claims are made on their behalf?

Personally I just buy chicken breast in bulk, along with tuna and lots of eggs.
Protein shakes work out expensive compared to buying the food, and alot of the time you don't get as much protein as you'd like. There's a good few articles online telling you why you should avoid them too.. have a Google. Not saying they don't work, but personally I think it's better to buy protein dense foods and eat normally to get the same intake as a shake would give you. |

Better off eating good, protein-based food than some foul milkshake!

They work for body builders etc because you are supposed to consume protein no later than 30 minutes after a work out to ensure optimum muscle gain. So sometimes food isn't the way to go (by the time you've got home from the gym etc) plus the shakes make up is one that can be readily and easily used by the body.
![]() Think they are worth it, but like with everything they work best if you combine it with a proper structure; healthy eating, sleep etc. |

I use the protine shakes but I take them with water instead of milk. Using water supposidly gets them to the muscles faster than compared to milk.

The stuff in most protein shakes (whey) is a waste product of cheese manufacture, so yes they 'work' in so far as they contain protein.

I used to drink shakes all the time and know many people who swear by them, but personally I find they make little to no difference, as long as your diet is good. The cheapest method by far is to buy unflavoured whey and add your own flavour.
