It depends what you like.

It's a decent 7 parter with The Doctor, Liz, The Brig & Benton. What lifts it above the average run of the mill story is that some of it is set in a parallel world where events are slightly ahead of what they are here plus events have happened slightly different there.

So, part of the plot revolves around whether The Doctor can use the knowledge he gains on the parallel Earth to prevent "our" Earth making the same mistake.

Depending on my mood I'd say it was either the best or second best story of season 7 (the other contender being Spearhead From Space).

Inferno is probably my fave Pertwee story. It's a bit overlong, but has a pretty good storyline. I think I preferred Liz Shaw to Jo Grant overall, so that might have something to do with it.

It's highly-rated amongst Who fans, many of whom consider it to be one of the very best Dr Who episodes. And it's not really that well known. For £7 I'd snap it up!

Good story. Nick Courtney is great as the fascist Brigade Leader. Well worth that price.

Yes - get it - It's a great story even if the 'monsters' look a bit naff.

Cheers, daveac

Well, that's something of a Doctor Who tradition, which even continues to this day.

Yes I to prefer Liz Shaw to Jo Grant.

And how could any one forget those lovely legs when she is talking to the Doctor while he is working on the car

Inferno is a good story but generally accepted to be 2 or 3 episodes too long - as shown by the same plot being used twice in the one story

That seems to be fairly typical of most of Pertwee's stories

Not at all.

All his 4 parters are excellent and the 6 parters do stretch a bit but no more than T.Baker stuff.

Luckily Pertwee episodes were made as the show was reaching new heights .

Unfortunately while the first few T Baker seasons were great they went downhill and once JNT took over it was pitiful

Not all of JNT's stories were pitiful at all. Several of his serials were vast improvements on many of the Graham Williams era, and when compared to the input of Russell "fart gag" T Davies, well ...

Okay only Three episodes ( of the same alien!) consisted of farting out of a total of 25 stories he did as writer, and the 55 stories as producer......I'm not totally aware of how many JNT did....but is that really a fair comparison?????

The fart gags are symptomatic of a general stupidity that RTD has brought to numerous episodes of what was once a series I was proud to say I was a fan of.

As someone said on another site, can you imagine any of the Doctors from the original series uttering the line "Excuse me, do you mind not farting while I'm trying to save the world?"

Even when the original Doctor Who was at its most ridiculous (ie. several of Douglas Adams' contributions, Delta and the Bannerman, The Happiness Patrol), it was never quite THAT stupid.

So while I strongly disagreed with a number of decisions that JNT made, "pitiful" is a word that really should be reserved for the contributions of the so-called "genius" RTD.

Well I guess that is subjective in the end....while personally I found the line that you mention silly yes, but it had my Niece in hysterics, and she loves it....However, with episodes like Midnight, I would class him as a genius....and anyway as the fourth Doctor said "What's the point in being grown up, if you can't be childish sometimes?"

You must have missed the 'fart in spacesuit' gag in Warriors of the Deep

"Excuse me, do you mind not farting while I'm trying to save the world?" has Tom Baker all over it
