TV equipment and toast?

Bit of an odd title, but it kind of has meaning to what i need to ask about.

My oh is expecting triplets in a couple of weeks, and although a little early to be thinking, I need to start considering how to protect my av equipment from little fingers.

The problem is I quite like my glass stand, but therein lies the problem. My glass stand is open all around, and I would preferably like to have my kit either behind glass doors, or on a different stand if I cant use my current one.

If it means having to make a cover for my current stand, then I have no problem with that, but it would look a little odd. If I have to buy a new stand, I have no more than about £90 to spend (and a further £90 on a screen protector)

Do any of you guys have any suggestions to remedy my lil problem.

Fireguard around the equipment stand maybe?

You've got a good year at least before they will be mobile - could you maybe save up for a cabinet or something in the meantime?

I understand your concern - our daughter was the main contributor to the death of two TV's inside a couple of years - the first one got a good drink of herbal tea as she crawled in front of me as I walked through the living room door, and the second one got used as an etching board with one of mummy's diamond rings!

Congratulations on the triplets.

Fireguard sounds like a good solution as mentioned by fat controller.

£90 - is that for a screen or the actual projector?

Is the projector for home cinema use or just for family videos?

You will get a screen for your £90 but doubt whether you will get anything worth while for home cinema use.

Thanks for the replies - I had thought of the fire guard, but all fireguards I can find are too tall (stand is a max 50 cm high - fireguards I hae seen are minimum 60 cm which would encroach on the screen. I could cut one down however that would leave sharp edges, which are a no no when around young children.

The £90 i mentioned was for a screen protector - essentially a large piece of moulded clear plastic which is strapped on the screen to stop little ones damaging the screen. It works out at £75 for the screen and £15 for postage from www.thescreenprotector.co.uk - I will be ordering that sooner rather than later just for the peace of mind really as I have 2 young cousins who are up in mine a fair bit and there have been some close shaves in recent months with things being thrown around the room and plastic swords being swung about.

I had thought of building a wraparound with some 12/18mm mdf and perspex middle - with some cable ties to stop it falling forward, but came across one problem with my idea when designing it earlier - Being able to get to the cd trays of both my xbox 360 and the mini hifi which i'm using for sound.

Deacon1972 - I have been jesting with the oh, that when she goes into hospital for the caesarean section, she'll come home to find a projector on top of the bookcase with the xbox going on the wall behind the sofa needless to say, she wont be happy if it does happen (its not really, however much i would like to)
