Well I'm not a vegan or vegetarian, but I do like Goodlife's Butternut Squash (which is sold frozen). You get 2 in a pack along with a couple of tomato-based sauces.
Sainsburys sell this product but Tesco don't

I like salad with either plamil mayo or a nice hummus, or marinated tofu pieces.
![]() I've still got half a jar of mayonnaise in the fridge from making coleslaw last week. Am doing roast potato salad with it tomorrow - got left over roasties in the fridge!

![]() I've no idea what plamil mayo is like but if you like salads or as a possible alternative to plamil mayo, you might like to try Cross (spelling?) & Blackwell Waistline dressing. It's a low-fat salad cream which, I think, is suitable for vegans; it certainly doesn't contain any eggs anyway. |

I don't think I could live as a vegan. If I was a veggie I would probably live off chips, pizza and pasties
![]() As a vegan then left with chips, and not in dripping ![]() Have you tried bloody mary gaspacho? It's kind of healthy if you don't mind the vodka

If you ever go to Yo Sushi, I recently had a very lovely tofu (not fried, in three slices) with dressed cucumber and seaweed dish.
It was gorgeously clean tasting and refreshing, and the silken texture of the tofu was set off very nicely by the dressing. And I speak as an omnivore!

My base for most of my Indian recipes is vegan, so I do end up eating a fair number of vegan meals without really thinking about it.
My potato and cauliflower pakoras get wolfed down faster than I can make them. They are made by creating a thick paste from adding a number of aromatic spices (dried fenugreek leaves, chopped coriander, pinch of cumin, paprika, chopped green chillies, salt, tiny pinch of hing, pinch of ajwain, garlic and ginger powder) to chickpea flour and a little water and combining this with thinly sliced potatoes, red onions and small florets of cauliflower. Fry spoonfuls of the resulting mixture in vegetable oil until golden brown and eat immediately! |

You could do vegetable fajitas, one of my favourites, griddle some red/yellow/green peppers, onions and carrot and add smoky BBQ spice mix, Old El Passo do a nice one, alternatively you can make your own -

I've only ever had those ready-made pakoras you find in the mixed Indian snack packs in the supermarket, but would love to have a go at making my own. I've just ordered the cookbook "A Vegan Taste Of India" by Linda Majzlik from Amazon - brand new for just over £2!

This may be of interest. Several months ago (at least) I was in Tesco and went to pick up a packet of own-brand Nut Cutlets as normal when I noticed the dreaded 'New & Improved' label stamped on the box. In my experience this normally means they've altered a perfectly acceptable recipe, and made it inferior. Sure enough, as I checked the box, the white 'Suitable for Vegans' logo had been removed, and milk had been added to the recipe.
Fast forward to this afternoon, and I'm in Tesco, and I'm checking their frozen selection again. (I periodically check despite not having found anything in their freezers for months). Anyway I noticed the Suitable for Vegans label had returned to the Nut Cutlets, and a check of the recipe didn't reveal anything that would suggest milk remained in the recipe. Maybe Tesco had complaints about the addition of milk to the recipe, given that their Nut Cutlets are the only thing in their meat-free frozen selection that are Suitable for Vegans, maybe they just changed suppliers. But in any event, it's good to have them available again. |

I bought my last pack online and didn't know they'd changed the recipe. It was so disappointing to spot the sticker on the end of the pack, stating "Now Contains Milk", and another with "New Improved Recipe" ( I don't know whether you like this type of thing, but Tesco now do a pack of 2 frozen Chicken Style Fillets and some Chicken Style Dippers. Both are marked 'Vegan'. To be honest, I didn't think much of either when I tried them, but I'm not really one for these meat-substitute type-things. The nuggets reminded me of eating meat! Others might enjoy them...

I've just been in my local Asda, and for the first time locally I saw Alpro Tofu - both chunks and mince. They were in the chiller cabinets, alongside the Quorn range of products. The tofu chunks are flavoured with a lightly seasoned marinade, so it is similar to the Cauldron version. Both the chucks and mince were just £1.00 per 180g pack. This didn't seem to be an introductory or other special offer - just a standard price. Comparing prices for the tofu chunks, when the Cauldron equivalent is selling for ~£2.05, I thought it was quite a bargain.
I also noticed that they were stocking a wider range of Redwood Foods products. As well as the Fish-style Fingers and the Chicken-Style chunks, they were also stocking a selection of slices and rashers from the Vegi-Deli range of products. Obviously some of these may stray into, 'too much like meat' territory, but it's nice to see them broadening their offer. |
