Apologies if this has been done before.

Should we start a petition to get David Tenant to light the Olympic flame in 2012 dressed as the Doctor, as per Fear Her?
It would be something British and iconic to start the games.

Lol! I'd love that for the sheer reason it would mean Doctor Who was accurately predicting the future! Although it would also mean that "Fear Her" actually happened and I can only just accept that it happened as an episode, let alone an event.

To make it match the episode, we would have to get everyone in the stadium to hide for a few minutes too. I wouldn't go as far as that though.

Aww that would be great fun -would love that .Actually it's not that far fetched -can't get much more English than the Tardis and the Doctor-a special fun scene for the opening maybe.

I meant that the games are coming to London,England thats all
so the opening will probably be heavy with London images.Of course Scotland,Northern Ireland and Wales will also be enjoying and very likely represented at the opening-just saying were we to see the Doctor and the tardis they are a very English image and character ..

You think Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will be "very likely represented"? Oh if we are lucky. We'd be so greatful if you would let us play. Have a look at yourself.

you've so misunderstood me -i'm actually from Northern Ireland.

Sorry I should have said UK -I honestly meant nothing in my comment -was just saying theres likely to be some scenes of London at the opening and if Who does anything for the event thats likely where we will see them thats all .

I actually so can picture a scene -would love to post it here but if I do no chance of it happening .

Well if Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland were stopped from playing, England would be as well seeing as its the same team...

Hate to be a knit picker here, but it is actually "Great Britain" that has won the right to hold the 2012 olympics as that is the name of the team as residents of northern ireland with irish citizenship are now allowed to choose wheather they want to compete with ireland or great britain. There will probs be something representing all the constituent countries just to make the country seem more fair and cultured, just like china and their 56 minorities.

Anywho, I think it would be great if david tenant did actually light the olympic flame, as posted by someone before, just for the sheer reason that doctor who will have actually predicted the future. Though it will probably be some boring athelete like kelly holmes or the likes.

ermm.yeah I think you'll find (if you've been watching the Olympics) it's 'Team GB' and officially stated as 'Great Britain' (not UK, not England, etc etc... ) lol.

Guys I can only say sorry I meant no harm or upset .

All I was saying is the games are going to be centered in London -I said Northern Ireland,Wales and Scotland are likely to be representd simply because i'm not organising London 2012 -I don't know what will be happening for sure how could I ? We're all going to be part of the games thats for sure ..

Anyway back to a happier topic -I'm picturing such a brilliant scene with the Doctor wonder if I should post it here.If I thought this was just a bit of fun wishing and there was no chance DW might play a part in the opening i'd post it like a shot .

Anyway lets hope the bbc are thinking of something ..

I tihnk you will find that the Games were actually awarded to London and not Great Briain. They are given to a city, as oposed to say the World Cup awarded by FIFA to South Africa for 2010.

It is a bit concerning however, that there seems to be a lack of understanding generally of the difference between Great Britain and The United Kingdom.

Graet Britain is the main Island. The 8th Largest in the World I believe. The Official UK title is The United Kingdom of Great Btitain and Northern Ireland

Anyway on to DT lighting the Flame- what a fantastic idea,

Light it with the sonic scredwriver.

Tardis & doc - I will be very disappointed if they don't feature in the opening, Tardis could link to different interesting times in Brit history.

It was irony. Probably a concept you don't recognise unless it's highlighted with silly faces.

The Olympics aren't about Doctor Who. I think it would be a bit insulting to people like Sir Steve Redgrave if they were passed over for an actor.
