Barlow/Kay want Xmas number 1
Tough competiton for X5 winner? Quote:
COMIC Peter Kay and singer Gary Barlow are planning to release a novelty Christmas single. Full story Good pals Peter and Take That’s Gary have joined forces to rival The X Factor in the hope of scooping the coveted festive No1. Their song will be based on a character from Peter’s new spoof series lampooning X Factor and other reality shows. Think this could possibly be toughest competiton for an X Factor winner yet!

They wont be able to compete with the x factor winner, I think Leon sold more than the other nine singles from the Christmas top ten all put together and he was a pretty average winner in my opinion.

Judging by Leon's success, I agree - a worthy winner could sell more than the entre Top 40 put together. I don't mind, if I like them.
(editing this bit so as not to sound so OT) Hope we have a decent winner's single this time round, maybe something more upbeat but still relevant and of course well sung would be nice too ![]() If not, I'd rather see Jordin Sparks get it as I'm a huge fan (with any song!) but I'm intrigued to hear this Barlow/Kay comedy collaboration now ![]() xxxx |

I'm sure Leon is the winner the majority of the public voted for so in that sense he is worthy but what I don't see is why. To me he has an average voice and lacks star quality, and obviously his fans disagree but when I said he wasn't worthy I said it as an opinion and not a fact based on what I think makes a worthy winner.

I'm with Faria on this one, I couldn't agree more with the highlighted part, I thought Rhydian had much more "star quality" and leon only won because of his story and progression though the weeks, If my memory serves me correctly he was bloody awful on the very first live show.

I guess in my opinion all those that make it through to the live shows are deserving winners and whoever gets the most votes is worthy or derserving whether they are my personal fave or not. |

I don't think anyone sets out to change the topic of the threads it was just a natural progresion from your original post but as I was involved I appologise and i will reiterate my first post that there is not a cat in hells chance of them getting the Christmas number one or anyone else for that matter.

Aw sorry all for being involved in going OT. Who knows, maybe Leon himself will come out witha fantastic single which surprises his doubters and wins the race to Xmas No1?

I don't understand why they just don't make the Winners single a Xmas ballard. At least the theme would fit the tone.
This is the only part of the X Factor I hate. The fact they have ruined that was a great music chart race. |

I'm sick of x-factor winner's songs about "this is my moment in time and I'm going for gold to make it big because I was a nobody".
I think Abba should reform just once and release a Killer Chrimbo single just to put an end to this nonsense. |

I don't see why all winners' singles have to be ballads - something like Walking On Sunshine would be good as you'd think that's how most winners would really be feeling having just heard their name!
I wouldn't suggest the winner realeasing WOS, just a similar type song as I don't like thm releasing covers either, even decent ones. I love Jordin Sparks and David Cook's American Idol winners' singles but that's partly because I always supported them and was so pleased that they both won. Other songs by them are even better. |

Well Barlow/Kay can dream all they like, but it won't stop the X Factor winner getting the Christmas #1.

If anyone can nobble the 'X Factor' winner from landing the number 1 spot, it's Take That and Peter Kay. Both popular. Plus as time goes on, there's going to be even more of a backlash against 'X Factor' grabbing number 1.
I personally wanted Shaun the Sheep to be number 1 when I heard the Woolly Wonder was releasing a single. That was before the live show had even got going. Alas, it wasn't to be. ![]() Oops just realised it's Gary Barlow without the Thatters and Peter Kay. |

Well I hope Gary Barlow and Peter Kay do get the number 1 spot. Xmas number 1's were always about Novelty records before X Factor came and it's about time it reversed back.

The rebellion against the XF Xmas number one has been creeping up for a bit, I think.
Nevertheless, I don't think that there will be strong enough competition for an XF winner's song. We will have another XF winner's song. |

I agree it would be nice if the XF song was a nice Christmas song, or a more upbeat song
I'm fed up of the "This Is My Moment/That's My Goal" type rubbish. The race for Christmas No. 1 used to be great. I agree Cowell has ruined that ![]() Except, pre-Cowell, who did we get? East 17 (1994) Spice Girls (1996, 1997, 1998) Westlife Hmmm. |

Well sales have been decreasing in winners' sales, so it could be a possibility. If the winner this year only manages 300-350k it could be very possible.

If anything is going to stop the X Factor from being Christmas Number One, I want it to be something that has some kind of actual musical merit. Something I highly doubt this collaboration will have.
Plus, I can't stand Peter Kay
