TV Sender - not wireless
Hi,
I am looking for a device to send the TV output from my Sky box (actually a Sky HD box) to a TV upstairs. I don't want to involve any PCs, but am obviously happy to put hardware both upstairs and downstairs. We use a wireless TV sender at the moment, but with a new baby on the way are concerned about the microwaves it uses to transmit, however low-power they are. I'd rather not have to run cable from downstairs to upstairs, would love it if it could transmit HD (but that isn't a necessity), and would be ideal if it can either use a power-line adapter or could be connected via ethernet (as we run ethernet around the house already). Is there anything on the market? I have a slingbox downstairs, but am bored waiting for the never-to-appear slingcatcher product which could be the answer. Thanks. |

First off, I'm not sure that Wireless TV Senders use microwaves (or at least the vast majority of senders that I've come across.) They use similar frequencies in the free-to-air RF channels that cordless digital phones, wireless broadband, wireless CCTV and wireless baby monitors use!
Something like this will allow you to send the RF signal via the mains and to be able to control the 'plus' features and change channels. I think you'll need two of these. |

Presumably the OP doesn't have a mobile phone?, and lives in a VERY detached house, so no near neighbours have one? - FAR more concerns with the much higher power of a mobile phone, and there's never yet been any evidence of safety issues from that. |

It was more because the device will be basically pointing at the location of the baby to work - and it's my partner who is understandably concerned about such things. I just want an easy life, so if there was something I could plug in and avoid having to position the device as 'safe' then things would be easier and she would feel happier.
Looking around, I don't really think there is much option except a standard wired sky 'magic eye' style connection, or waiting for the 'sling catcher' scheduled for "2008". Shame, though. |

I just bought an IR AV sender from tesco, it's their teknika make and was £27. Took a couple of mins to sort out and works fine. Just need a cheap sky+ remote now to save taking it back and forth.

It would be really nice if it did, but I rather suspect that that is just an RF amplifier built into a plug. I would also quite like a cabled video sender, because I tried a RF one and even though it was to the room directly above this signal quality was dire! |

Just to add to my post above (I know you don't want a wireless sender but someone else reading might) that when we put the baby monitor on just now it was playing sky through it. Now I've changed channels and it's showing the baby cam, but it means we now have a mini tv that can also recieve the sky signal. TV in the bath/garden perhaps?
