I have an archos 500 mp4 player, but haven't really taken to it. I want to buy an i pod, but am not sure whether to go for a nano or classic. Fundamentally, I want it for music and photos.

I am leaning more toward the classic.

Any preferences?

I think it depends on how much music/pictures etc. you have really - would a nano be big enough, or would the classic be too big?

I'm too lazy to keep checking/unchecking songs to sync so went for the classic so that I could just sync the whole library.

The classic is about the size of a house brick. I carry my nano with me everywhere, it just fits in my pocket. No way I'd be happy carrying a classic about but each to their own.

The Classic is not "about the size of a house brick". It is approximately 6x10x1 cm. I have yet to find a house brick that small. The Nano is approximately 4x9x0.5 cm.

flash players lightness does have its advantages, but if your collection doesn't fit on their smaller capacity it can be more troublesome. many people own one of each:P different usages.

But the Classic has 20x the capacity for less than 2x the price: bargain in my books!

The types of accessory needed should also inform the OP choice.

I own both an iPod Nano (V2) and iPod Touch and I'll admit, when im out and about I take my Nano with me.. I use my touch all the time if im at home or if im going away for a few days and want to use the wifi feature to use email and check my usual sites.

But when im going to and from College on a daily basis which involves walking quite a bit I take my Nano with me because its such a compact size that it fits in literally any pocket and you can just put your hand in your pocket and tap the little button to change songs.. its really handy and doesnt weigh you down too much. I tried with my iPod Touch one day and It filled up the whole pocket and was really awkward as I had to keep getting it out to change songs as theres only button which is the home one, and believe me its not the type of device that you want to keep exposing to public eye.

Thanks everyone for all your helpful input. Price isn't an issue, I just wondered if - because the nano has been updated - I was getting momre features. Because I want a larger hard drive, I think the classic is more suitable.
Apple aren't updating the classic in the near future, are they?

What don't you like about the Archos?

They are more geared towards being a PMP (Personal Medial Player) rather than 'just' an MP3 player. This makes them bukier in terms of physical size but, other than that, they're pretty good players.
