Wales V England (Invesco Perpetual RU friendly)

BBC Two / BBC Three - Jason Mohammed hosting, as well as doing a terrible drop kick into the River Taff, with Jeremy Guscott for pre- and post match analysis. Commentary from Gareth Charles and Bryan Moore.

It is because Sky prioritise having the highlights in HD over having analysis so if an HD studio is not available the highlights are done without analysis. As a non HD viewer I find this exceptionally annoying. If HD matters to them so much why don't they just get Charles and the team to do the Verdict from the ground, using the HD setup there as they did during the 2009 Ashes.

To be honest though, as mentioned before, I aint the biggest Gower fan, slavers on a bit. BTW has Gower ever been part of international feed commentary teams for CWC or 20/20 WCs? As Obviously recently featured the likes of Hussain, Atherton etc. Gower seems to never be thought of highly outside of the UK broadcasting wise.”

Gower's never done a T20 World Cup, and I think he only recently presented/commentated on the T20's that England's men and women played in Australia over the winter. Bit odd to see him not just doing a T20 game, but a women's one at that!

But he has commentated on every World Cup, bar 2011 since 1992 I think. He definitely did from '96 onwards.

Did he commentate in 2007? I just remember him presenting from a beach house somewhere.

He also covered the T20's in South Africa in 2009 as im sure they couldn't be bothered to send Wardy out just to cover them.

He did commentate in 1992, he was part of Channel 9's host coverage

Nah, they just had Ward and Colvile presenting from the Sky studio then if I remember rightly.

I think the original post was referring to the T20s on England's tour of South Africa in 2009/10 which Gower presented. Ward and Colvile have shared presenting duties on all 3 World T20s.

Indeed i was.

Who did the T20s on the 2009 West Indies tour Shelsey? I remember Ward presented some of the tests from a studio i think due to technical problems, but i couldn't remember if that had been sorted by the coloured clothing leg of the tour?

There was only 1 T20 which Ward presented from London. The problem was that Ian Bishop was presenting from the grounds for West Indian viewers and so if both Bishop and Gower were presenting with pundits etc. the commentary team would be overstretched. Presenting from the studio also allowed Bob Willis and Bumble (who wasn't on the commentary team until the ODIs on that tour) to have their say as there were no studio highlights as the matches were being played in primetime anyway.

The 1st 2 (3 if you count the abandoned game) Tests were presented by Ward before Colvile did the last 2 Tests and Wardy returned for the limited overs games.

Thanks. Seems a funny decision then that Sky didn't insist on Gower staying behind to present from London. And thus sending out a different commentator in his place.

Am I imagining it or are we hearing a little less of Murray and Critchley than we usually do, on the PGA commentary?

So it was Mark Ramprakash that whiny little voice I caught a little of on Tuesday.

Jeremy Coney as befits his status, gives some quite excellent analysis and really should be used more.
Does he work in cricket at all now?

I don't think he does outside of his media work, I think it's because he still does some work in the theatre trade

To be fair Sky have used him much more in the last year or so. In the winter he was in the studio throughout the India-NZ and NZ-Pakistan series and was a regular during the World Cup and this summer has done more county cricket than he has done in previous years.

You rarely see him in the studio though. Coney is fantastic and its a shame he is so underused. A MUCH better broadcaster than... Ramps, Butch, Udal and the rest of those types.

I could be wrong, but I also get the impression they just can't be bothered to do a full, proper highlights show (with analysis) if there's no room in the schedule for the first showing of the highlights before 10pm, or even later, due to live sport on all 4 channels around 8pm, as was the case throughout much of the third Test. It's almost like they think it's not worth it if it's gonna be on that late.

Beeky is reporting on Salford v Huddersfield for Sky tonight, so may become a regular gig.
