Forgive me for being ignorant arius but who is andy smith, I've never heard of him? I thought ESPN had drafted in Andrew Cotter to cover for Nick Mullins' absence too?

Ariusuk maybe able to help you more with Andy Smith, but I know Andrew Cotter was covering the Walker Cup golf for the BBC this weekend. I'd expect him to start his rugby duties this weekend

I'll post what I know, the details of the matches I've watched so far (I've posted New Zealand v Tonga info on the previous page):

Saturday 10th September - ITV1

Argentina v England

Steve Rider presented from London alongside Danny Care, Francois Pienaar and Lawrence Dallaglio

Commentators: Nick Mullins and Phil Vickery

Post-match interviews (other than those from the HB): Martin Bayfield

Scotland v Romania highlights commentators: Simon Ward and Scott Hastings

Sunday 11th September - ITV1

South Africa v Wales

Steve Rider presented from London alongside Sean Fitzpatrick, Gareth Thomas and Francois Pienaar

Commentators: Nick Mullins and Phil Vickery

Gabriel Clarke conducted the ITV-specific post-match interviews and recorded a feature on the Wales team in the build-up.

There was a pre-recorded England retrospective piece with Martin Bayfield and Phil Vickery during the post-match.

Ireland v USA highlights commentators: Simon Ward and Alan Quinlan

Don't know the studio teams and commentators for the other matches but I believe some of the details have been posted in another thread.

The Difference has said most of them but Mullins and Vickery did England and Wales, Ward did Scotland with Hastings and Ireland with Alan Quinlan and Gillingham and Gomersall did the others apart from Fiji vs Namibia which Bob Symonds did on his own.

He actually started them last weekend, he did ESPN's opening game. I like how they need a stand-in for the stand-in.

I think Andrew Cotter is being lined up as Peter Allis heir apparent as number 1 golf commentator.

Not quite his debut, he did a stage on the Tour de Suisse earlier this year I think. Plenty of other cycling on as well recently...

Commentator (SBS): Matthew Keenan

la Vuelta a Espana (British Eurosport)
Commentators: David Harmon, Brian Smith (stages 1-2 and 8-9) and Sean Kelly (stages 3-7 and 10-21)

USA Pro Cycling Challenge (British Eurosport)
Commentators: Carlton Kirby and Brian Smith

Twinings Pro-Am Tour (Sky Sports)
Commentators: Anthony McCrossan and Brian Smith

Quebec Pro Sprint Challenge (British Eurosport)

Commentators: Jon Harris-Bass and Brian Smith

Paris-Brussels (British Eurosport)
Commentators: Carlton Kirby and Brian Smith

I hope so, I think he's excellent on the golf and the rugby (though less of a fan when he does tennis). Whether the BBC will have any golf apart from the Open for him to commentate on in five years time is a different question.

Open I think want the BBC and the BBC want to safeguard the Open.

Indeed, Cotter for me as absolutely fantastic. Rugby wise and then on the golf. He is still very good on tennis.

Ah OK. I didn't watch much of the Tour de Suisse, but is a good cycling commentator (unlike Carlton) as he could quickly identify cyclists.

The whole match was live, not just highlights. And Simon Ward also did post match interviews, as he did for the Ireland game.

Dean Thomas was the ITV Wales reporter.

As long as it's not too windy.

I realise that, I was referring to how they showed brief highlights of the Scotland/Ireland games in the final half hour of their England/Wales coverage respectively (which is a sensible and welcome move).

Thanks for the additional info about the reporters, I was wondering who was doing the ITV-specific interviews on the Scotland and Ireland games.

Does anyone have any RWC viewer figures on ITV. What kind of figures are some of the lesser 3am games going to be getting?

Wednesday 14th September - Rugby World Cup 2011 Pool B, ITV1

Scotland v Georgia

Steve Rider presented alongside Thom Evans and Gareth Thomas

Commentators: Simon Ward and Scott Hastings

Post-match interviews came from the host broadcaster during the live programme, not sure who did their additional ones for the highlights.

Martin Bayfield did a couple of reports from the England camp in Queenstown during their ever-so-slightly Anglocentric post-match section. Again I'm not sure if there were any pre-match preview features, nor do I have any viewing figures I'm afraid!

On ITV1 there was nothing about England as such pre-game. They had the past match england previews on ITV4 before the ITV1 coverage kicked in at 8.15am

I Assume Andy Smith has maybe been or is an IRB worldfeeder? Obviously not in NZ due to IRB taking sky sports NZ feed.

There has been an Andy Smith hosting Premier Football on the EPL Radio service if I remember correctly. I also associate the name with a one-time BBC Radio cricket reporter.

Rather annoyingly the BBC's red button coverage of Ulster vs Cardiff Blues doesn't have the BBC NI's commentary option. Instead its a choice of the Welsh comms or that stupid fanzone style crap. I understand this normally, but when another option is available like tonight it should be used. In fact BBC NI's coverage should have been the main one used tonight, studio coverage and all.

As someone who enjoys watching rugby, but is not a hardcore fan i need to commentary to help me through. You also don't get the ref's mic with this fanzone stuff which again is irritating.

LOSG, are you the person who used to text in moaning about Fanscene in previous years? I quite liked the concept, I'm a little disappointed they've changed it to incorporate ex-pros this season. And for what it's worth I think Scrum V is miles better than its Northern Irish equivalent!
