The concept is fine, as long as you always have the option of shall we say "normal" coverage.

The reason i said about BBC NI is because on the red button they had the fanzone bloke talking over the studio coverage at half time and we didn't get regular commentary. Both of which were available via BBC NI.

Fair point - to be honest I'd prefer it if they took the normal half-time coverage as they used to, rather than have Rick and co talking over those pictures which is a change they made last season.

Saturday 17th September - Rugby World Cup Pool C, ITV1

Australia v Ireland

Steve Rider presented from London alongside Girvan Dempsey, Michael Lynagh and Francois Pienaar

Commentators: Simon Ward and Alan Quinlan

Didn't catch any of ITV1's pre or post-match coverage so I don't know who conducted their interviews or what feature reports they carried.

The fanscene bits were creeping in again last night, as you were asked to text in with a Mountain based XV, so we had Cliff Morgan, Rocky Elsom, Ben K2 (Ben Kay) and so on.

I would've texted in with Pandora Peaks, just to see what the response would've been. Oh, If only I had a mobile phone

I watched the post-match stuff, Declan Kidney and Brian O'Driscoll were both interviewed by the HB (maybe one or two others too), Gabriel Clarke interviewed a couple of Irish players and there was a report from England HQ with Martin Bayfield

After the first round, it now seems to be showing only the advert in between each round, which is quite funny.

Sunday 18th September - Rugby World Cup 2011 Pool D, ITV1

Wales v Samoa

Craig Doyle presented alongside Thom Evans and Gareth Thomas

Commentators: Bob Symonds and Andy Moore

Reporter: Gabriel Clarke - I suspect Dean Thomas was also conducting interviews for ITV Wales and the ITV highlights show

Thanks for the reporter details Ariusuk and The Wanderer. On this morning's coverage, I thought Andy Moore was excellent as the co-commentator today, certainly he's by far the best of ITV's quintet on the basis of what I've heard. I hope we get to hear more of him on the ITV network's coverage as the tournament progresses.

Richard Morgan was the ITV Wales reporter. They had their own studio, with Gareth Llewellyn and Mark Taylor as guests, but used the same commentary.

The commentation of sport depends on the atmosphere around the sports grounds ect. If I addressed an action that had taken place for example a goal in a non emotional voice, like as if I'm not botherd then the audience would be distracted from the game. Then there's over zelous commentry that oulines a goal, one that sounds like the best goal ever. Years ago the british had the much loved murrey walker and yes he is loved for work in the sport. Murrey was famous for making mistakes in his commentry during his years, that was at the end of his career, but he is the voice and knowledge of each corner on the F1 course was amazing. Then you have Aurton Senna in the racing care. How differcult that would have been to comment on.

On Channel 5's highlights of the 5th and final ODI between England and India, at the end Mark Nicholas said that "this is our final cricket of the year on Channel 5", implying that they will not be showing the two T20 internationals against the West Indies at The Oval next weekend (a fact confirmed in the listings for Channel 5 for the next seven days).

Even though these matches were late additions to the calendar (as a result of the Stanford fiasco), Channel 5 ought to be broadcasting a highlights programme, as they are contractually obliged to as these are England international matches. By not showing these T20 matches, are Channel 5 in breach of contract?

Are they contractually obliged though? I don't know the exact details of the original deal, but as these are matches that wern't part of it perhaps they aren't allowed to show highlights.

I don't think Channel 5 had any involvement in the Stanford Series did they? These games are compensation for that so maybe only rights holders for that deal are allowed to show these two games

The matches start after 6.30pm both nights so when would they show the highlights ? 11.00 ?

Anyone have details of Channel 5's coverage of the Tyson Fury fight? I know Mark Pougatch was presenting and their commentary team was the same as last time, but I didn't catch all of their pre and post-match stuff so don't know who was reporting or if they did anything on the Primetime fight.

Yeah I'd imagine that's the case, and that these T20 matches aren't covered under the usual contract.

Joe Tidy did some bizarre backstage reporting, which consisted of asking Fury for his thoughts every 30 seconds pre-fight. They had a brief interview with Mayweather from the press conference at the end of the programme.

As for Primetime on Mayweather v Ortiz, Andy Kerr presented with Steve Bunce and Duke McKenzie from the studio here, and Benny Ricardo and Wayne McCullough were commentating. I don't think they had an on-site reporter.

Last weeks cycling...

Tour of Britain (ITV)
Presenters: Jill Douglas (stage 1) and Ned Boulting (stages 2-9) with Yanto Barker
Commentators: Hugh Porter and Brian Smith

Richmond Grand Prix (Sky Sports)
Commentators: Anthony McCrossan and Brian Smith

Are ITV Wales just using their regional news studio for presentation?

No, they are in a different studio, with a set to match the main ITV rugby set (but smaller). They are also using the ITV Sport graphics set.
