Commentators: Nick Mullins and Lawrence Dallaglio

They also had a Try of the Tournament compilation towards the end of their programme, which is worth a watch on the today's highlights show if you missed it.

Try of the tournament? That made me chuckle considering the lack of them!

Think Mullins has been pretty poor all tournament. Like you say he made so many mistakes yesterday. And again today with a disparaging comment on the aussie winger when he was trying desperately to avoid carrying over. He doesnt seem to know the rules. He should spend time reading up on them rather than writing his annoying little anecdotes.

I read a good tweet yesterday that summed it up,

Quote:
“Why is it that Nick Mullins has commentated well for bbc, is good on ESPN and is so so awful on itv. #rwc2011”

I've always enjoyed Nick Mullins as a commentator, but for some reason he's just not been the same while at this the World Cup

Maybe over hyped and not a number 1 in reality? He was a good Number 2 on the Beeb.

I Like Mullins but has been underwhelming at times. Interesting that Lawrence was used on co-comm today, a safe pair of hands maybe for the semi and final?

At least thank goodness it wasn't Vickery or what I feared Hastings!!

Best Union commentator for me is Eddie Butler by a country mile.

He can be very good. but then him and Brian Moore together can be one of the worst things ever in rugby broadcasting.

No real stand out rugby comms at the moment. I like Mark Robson, and his passion/enthusiasm. Andrew Cotter is rated highly by the BBC (some like / don't like so much) but for me could be a future Number 1. (in more than just Rugby of course)

Aside from Miles Harrison of course!

Can I just say I have huge respect for Keith Huewen, Jonny Kane and Johnny Mowelm this evening. Broadcasting can be difficult at the best of times, but to be on air after watching their friend in Dan Wheldon pass away takes huge courage.

Only just found out about the sad news through your message. Was going to post something about the rugby but it pales into insignificance. My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan Wheldon's loved ones.

A global picture blackout meant that David Lloyd and Nick Knight conducted a radio commentary for the first 4 overs. Thereafter, Sky were unable to secure a broadcasting license to use their own commentators and thus used the BCCI/Nimbus Sport team of Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Sourav Ganguly, Dermot Reeve and Matthew Hoggard.

OT, but in a repeated 'Pointless' this afternoon, one of the rounds was to work out commentators to their sports, with the pointless answer being "Michael Tucker - Equestrian".

That was the only one I failed to get.

Lol I got all 12 and proceeded to tell myself that it wasn't good for a 25 year old to know all of that!

I keep hearing Mr Logistics, Steve Rider, advertising UPS in the run up to the 2012 Olympics on radio ads every 20 minutes. Must be a nice little earner for him.

Friday 21st October - Rugby World Cup 2011 Bronze Final, ITV1

Wales v Australia

Craig Doyle presented from pitchside at Eden Park alongside Martyn Williams, Michael Lynagh and Lawrence Dallaglio

Commentators: Nick Mullins and Michael Owen

The only post-match interview during the live coverage came from the HB. I guess it'll be Gabriel Clarke conducting the ITV specific ones for the highlights programme.

Unlike the Eden Park quarter-finals and semi-finals, where the presenting team have started out at pitchside before moving into a studio for half-time onwards, Craig and co were on-site for the duration of today's broadcast.

The presentation team were at pitchside pre and post-match, but were in the studio at half-time. They were joined by Keven Mealamu and Piri Weepu at full-time.

London Wasps V Newport-Gwent Dragons (LV= Cup) (Saturday)

(S4C) Sarra Elgan hosting with Rhodri Gomer-Davies analyst, commentary from Lyn Davies and Derwyn Jones, with Rhodri Davies (barely able to keep the headphones on due to them being too small for his head) as Interviewer.

I'm sure the residents would be proud to know that according to Sarra, High Wycombe is now a suburb of London.

Anyone know what BBC Two Wales' Scrum V did last night? I didn't watch but would be interested to know what they did.

They were scheduled to show the Newport Gwent Dragons v Cardiff Blues in the Pro 12, but the game at Rodney Parade was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Last night's IPlayer listing for Scrum V is now headed as the Glasgow Warriors v Ospreys, which I believe was the live match on BBC Alba so it would make sense if they took that instead.

If so, who was involved in BBC Two Wales' coverage? Their team at Rodney Parade was due to be Ross Harries presenting alongside Gareth Thomas and Richard Parks, with Gareth Charles and Jonathan Davies on commentary, Rick O'Shea and Rhys Williams on Red Zone commentary, Tom Shanklin doing touchline analysis and Phil Steele conducting the interviews.

Would their presenting team have had time to relocate to the Llandaff studios for the live coverage or would they have had to present from an empty Rodney Parade? I'm presuming Charlo and Jiffy would have done an off-tube commentary with a local reporter doing their post-match interviews.

The match wasnt called off until after 8pm as they were trying to drain the water, so you had updates on the pitch from Phil Steele, Tom Shanklin and Nigel Owens (match referee).

Presented live from Rodney Parade, with Ross Harries, Richard Parks and Kingsley Jones who chatted for an hour when pitch updates weren't being delivered.

They went off air at about 8.10pm once the match had been postponed.

Warriors vs Ospreys was last week's live game, so it's likely that someone didn't update the title for the listings.
