Where have Matt Smith and Mandira Bedi been this weekend?

I see ITV4 are chopping and changing presenters for the IPL. What happened to Matt Smith and that exciteable woman ? Now it's Jiim Rosenthal and I see in the week it changes to Angus Scott

I'm guessing it's simply a case of giving Matt and Mandira a break from presenting day in day out. I think arius mentioned on another thread (or maybe even this one) that this would happen

Yeah, they haven't really had a day off for two weeks, it's been a harsh shift. Mandira mentioned at the end of Friday's game she is off to India for a bit to cover it, so presumably Rosenthal will occasionally deputise for Smith.

It's not quite Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen doing the Tour de France for 5 hours a day over 3 weeks with the odd day off, but they've done a hefty shift by UK standards.

Mandira is back in India till the last 10 days as planned before the tournament and Matt is also taking a break this week, having presented on 15 of the 16 previous days (his day off was after he finished Europa League at 11pm the previous evening). Jim Rosenthal did yesterday and today and will do tomorrow as well. Angus Scott is scheduled to do Tuesday and Wednesday. The listings on the Radio Times website also have Mark Pougatch doing a day later in the tournament. I think ITV have probably got it spot on in waiting for Mandira to go back to India to rest Matt - I can't really imagine Jim working with her (not a criticism of Jim, I think he's a top class presenter).

Agreed that it is right to rest Matt while Mandira is unavailable.
No objections to Jim - the perfect stand-in and an old ITV hand. Anyone know why Jim is not available all days?
Magnanimous of ITV to bring back Angus Scott post Setanta. Mark Pougatch has at least commentated on cricket previously. No Craig Doyle is a bit of a snub as he is already on ITV payroll. Hopefully Simon Hughes will be present most days to provide some continuity.
Finally, no Mark Nicholas is just disappointing.

Just a hunch, but Craig Doyle mightn't know much about cricket. I guess Nicholas is covering the New Zealand v Australia series for someone.

Nicholas is the presenter and a commentator Channel 9 but they only have home series

I wouldn't be surprised if he's working as a guest commentator for SKY New Zealand

Simon Hughes presenting the IPL this afternoon.

We're getting all the talk from the producers in the background, telling the commentators when an ad break is coming, and counting them down on the return from the ads.

I realise that most (if not all) of this has already been posted but for the sake of continuity I will continue with my regular cricket post.

IPL

Matt Smith and Mandira Bedi continued to present on Days 14 and 15 before Mandira returned to India for a while as planned and Matt also took a break at this point. Jim Rosenthal presented on Days 16, 17 and 18 and in my view was excellent - a shame he is not doing all of the cover days when Matt is unavailable.

Today's show was something of a disaster with Simon Hughes presenting rather than Angus Scott as listed on the EPG - I would imagine Angus dropped out and Simon stepped in (I think his primary role will be as a regular pundit rather than presenting during the tournament). The continuity announcer, who had probably read the information off the EPG, told us before the start of the programme that "now it is time for IPL cricket as Angus Scott introduces coverage of Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders" - not only is this the wrong presenter it was also Kings XI Punjab rather than Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Mumbai Indians. Then, Simon seemed totally uncomfortable presenting and came across as not having seen much IPL and had a moment before handing over for the toss where he got confused saying he had forgotten who the Kings XI Punjab captain was. Having said that, he got better as the show went on. The host broadcast was also blighted by technical difficulties as we could hear the commentators being counted in and out of ad-breaks.

The pundits this week have been as follows, with some big name injured current players being brought in (Dimitri Mascarenhas and James Anderson):

Day 14: Dimitri Mascarenhas and Graeme Hick
Day 15: James Anderson and Ronnie Irani
Day 16: Vikram Solanki and Matthew Hoggard
Day 17: Vikram Solanki and Matthew Hoggard
Day 18: Alec Stewart and Shaun Udal
Day 19: James Anderson and Alec Stewart

Thanks to rathbone boy for posting the commentators - much appreciated

No sign of him in NZ. The team for the two tests was Ian Smith, Simon Doull, Mark Richardson, Craig Macmillan, Greg Blewitt and Alan Border.

Presenter: Simon Hughes
Pundits: Mark Butcher and Dimi Mascarenhas

Has Hughes ever presented before? I can't remember seeing him in this role before - not the best role for him. They'd be best having him in a more analytical role.

Also, he's doing pretty well going from BBC TMS to ITV IPL to Cricket on Five in three months, which I'm pleased about, because I like Hughes a lot.

He could still be working as a print / radio journalist down there. He is very highly rated in Oz.

That would be Robin Jackman - I heard him commentating on one of the IPL games on ITV4 about a week ago.
