One of the Aussies introduced the other as Wally Masur. I did recognise the other voice so it may well have been Roger Rasheed.

Does anyone know if Wimbledon has an international feed, last night on the Williams sisters doubles match was Chris Bowers and Elise Burgin, who used to be a regular on Skys US Open coverage but not heard her on BBC before.

Finally wonder if they'll leave Mahut v Isner for the highlights show?

What a great match for Ronald McIntosh to commentate on at his first Wimbledon

I haven't heard Elise Burgin for years - but she used to do a lot of world feed commentary, so wouldn't be surprised if she was doing world feed at Wimbledon.

Right - This Saturday sees the EPG state that South Africa V Italy is only on Sky Sports 1 for the first half of the game, before switching to the Red Button for the second half.

Is there away of recording this match onto the PVR like Sky does with Football First for the whole game, or do I have do manually switch to the Red Button stream myself?

You'll have to press the red button yourself. You won't be able to sky+ it, but an external pvr that basically records whatever is on the screen should do it.

That's what I did a few times before I had sky+ and just used a dvd recorder.

Still Ronald McIntosh and Greg Rusedski in the commentary box for the third instalment of the World's Longest Tennis Match.

Oh well. Anyone from Sky Sports fancy holding back the Cricket game for 45 minutes?

Not sure if anyone else can confirm this, but I'm pretty sure Mark Cox commentated on the first four sets of the Isner/Mahut match on Tuesday evening. He probably deserves an honourable mention.

Nice to see John Barrett in the Royal Box today too. Hard to believe it's 4 years since his last commentary for the Beeb.

And equally hard to believe that he missed out on a lifetime achievement award from the RTS because they decided to axe the sport awards the year after he retired.

He did but that was a mere 3 hours work

Ronald certainly used to be a producer at the BBC so maybe he still does that as a day job and commentates when they need him.

Yeah - the BBC don't do that much tennis (and when they do, they haven't drafted him until now - later he could work himself up the list), there isn't that much athletics (and when they do, he gets the field events), and there is nowhere near enough basketball, and the BBC can't afford that much boxing. He surely has to do something between appearances. It's unlikely to happen, but I'd like the BBC to cover GB's Eurobasket qualifiers this summer (with the away ones it's likely that there's a foreign broadcaster doing all the HB work), if only as an excuse for Ronald and The Meech to resume their double act.

The first few minutes of the 1977 Wimbledon women's final highlights were shown yesterday, Harry Carpenter and all that... and a different theme tune.

When did they revert to the current one?

Well, I've got The Great Sporting Experience CD, which is a cracker featuring almost all the great themes, and Light and Tuneful, the Wimbledon theme, has a copyright date of 1972. However I think Wimbledon Match of the Day, the highlights show, had a different theme than the actual live coverage for a while.

Just flicking through some videos that are online and the current intro music was used in 1981 so it must have been around the turn of that decade.

Another couple of comms

Henin v Petrova - Matt Chilton and Tracey Austin
Montfils v Hewitt - Simon Reed and Boris Becker

Mornay Visser joined Michael Lynagh for South Africa V Italy, with commentary form the Supersport guys of Hugh Bladen and Joel Stransky. Viewers like me were asked to switch over to the Red Button facility in the 24th minute.

Back in the 1980s, who did BBC use as Wimbledon commentators ?

I can only recall a few - Dan Maskell, John Barrett and Mark Cox did the big games but i remember they also used Bill Threlfall, Richard Evans, Fred Perry and Peter West. But who else ? That doesnt seem many for a full days coverage

Good question. David Mercer possibly, he finished umpiring in 1984. Not sure really sure when they started either, but Julian Tutt and Barry Davies may have been involved.

Gerry Williams only did a couple of years I think, not sure about David Mercer but Barry Davies may have been doing Tennis then too, possibly Tony Gubba as well

I am talking early 80s not the back end
