Barry Davies was in vision with John Lloyd and Tim Henman for the "gag" at the start of Today At Wimbledon - it's the annual one where they're reading the newspapers....

According to Sky's adverts, Shane Warne will return to the TV commentary box for their live coverage of Pakistan vs. Australia in England, which starts next week.

Will all the usual regulars (i.e. Gower, 'Bumble', 'Beefy' etc.) be used too?

John McEnroe left part way through Federer v Berdych and Boris Becker took over.

Gower has mentioned that he and Holding are doing it, so I'd imagine it'll be sky as the host broadcasters with a few of the regulars doing it. Knighty and Bumble will probably be away doing the t20, so they might bring Willis back for that series.

Are you sure about Gower and Holding? I would expect a 7 man team of Ward, Hussain, Atherton, Knight, Blewett, Warne and Ramiz Raja. Holding is a possibility but Gower has done hardly any non-England matches recently and so would be something of a surprise. I would imagine sky would want to give an oppurtunity to work on more test matches to company favourites Ward and Knight, while Atherton seems to be favoured for first class matches. There are a few t20 games while the Pakistan v Australia tests are on and Sky would have Colvile, Lloyd, Allott and Butcher all available to cover these. Additionally, the final England v Bangladesh one-dayer is the day before the 1st England v Pakistan test. It would be a surprise to see Gower doing six days in a row unless of course Ward does the England v Bangladesh series.

Bob Willis appears to be out-of-favour as a commentator - he has not done a single t20 game this season.

Possibly off-topic, but certainly of interest to fans of Major League Baseball and particularly viewers of the much-missed MLB on Five.

BBC Radio Five Live Sports Extra have brought rights to the MLB, with them airing commentary on a Sunday game between 7-11pm our time each week.

Their studio presenting team will be MLB on Five's former anchors, Jonny Gould and Josh Chetwynd.

Here's the two initial programme information details from the BBC Press Office website:

Quote:

With the regular season already under way, the series joins the action on American Independence Day with live commentary of the Minnesota Twins versus Tampa Bay Rays from Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

First semi final of the ladies today

Zvonareva V Pironkova - Simon Reed and Tracy Austin

Just heard a weird thing. There is a girls singles match on BBC2 at the moment which is coming from Court 12. Barry Davies is commentating with Sam Smith. Barry started off by saying "on court 18" then corrected himself about a minute later. He then seemed to spend the next few minutes chastising himself for making an error.

Commentators are their own worst critics - it's Barry's 30th Wimbledon at least, so perhaps by the standards he sets himself, it's not good enough.

Of course, very few people if any would have noticed the error and even less would have cared.

Bit of a surprise for me today in the first semi

Berdych V Djokovic - Andrew Castle and John McEnroe. I thought Castle would do the Murray ( come on Andy ) game. Wonder if that will be Mark Petchy.

My predictions for the finals are

Womens - Petchy, Lindsay Davenport and McEnroe
Mens - Castle, Henman and Becker

It says Virgina Wade is amongst the commentators but i would ( personally ) be surprised if she does the final. Isnt she a committee member at Wimbledon so will be in the Royal Box etc for the final ?

Mak Petchey, John Lloyd and Boris Becker starting off in the box for the Murray match.

I'd be surprised if Petchey got both a Murray semi-final and the womens final so I'll go for

David Mercer, Virginia Wade and John McEnroe for the ladies final.

I agree Virginia Wade doesn't seem the likeliest choice, but I think it says a lot that she is mention in the programme notes for the specific Ladies final show, not the general programme that follows.

Personally I agree with Mercer - many junior players suffer from that complaint, until they start doing adult training

Women - Petchy, Davenport and McEnroe
Men - Castle, Henman and Becker

Well Petchey is scheduled second to play on No.1 court, and Mercer is commentating on the wheelchair doubles now, so I'll go for the outside bet of Barry Davies for the final today (with Austin and McEnroe).

I think Tracy Austin covers the ladies final for CBS
