Ulster V Scarlets (Magners League RU)
Gareth Lewis hosting with Jonathan Davies and Robert Jones in the studio, with Gareth Charles and Paddy Wallace commentating. Cennydd Davies and Huw Harries on the alternative Welsh Language commentary Coverage is currently only being shown from a single camera, due to some electrical fault at the ground with the OB truck, and BBC 2 Northern Ireland are *currently* showing other programming until some faults are rectified. Edit: 12 minutes in and it looks like we are back to normal. Last edited by Ian Cleverly : 01-04-2011 at 19:23. Reason: adding Welsh language commentary |

Great to hear Darkie and Jim Watt on the epic Morales vs. Maidana fight. Couldn't find an HBO broadcast so got them instead and they were certainly up for it.
Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, and Roy Jones Jr. I think were in Las Vegas for the event for HBO. |

Watching the golf on BBC 2 for the past two nights and I am wondering if they are preparing for the retirement of Peter Allis. Interesting to note that on both nights ( sat and sun ), he hasn't been in the commentary box at the start of their coverage. Instead he has being sitting next to Hazel. Maybe Andrew Cotter is being lined up as their main man now.

Rugby Highlights: Heineken Cup Quarter-Finals, ITV4
Craig Doyle presented from the Aviva Stadium alongside Geordan Murphy Northampton Saints v Ulster - Bob Symonds Leinster v Leicester Tigers - Simon Ward Biarritz v Toulouse - Simon Ward Perpignan v Toulon - Bob Symonds Interesting that only action from the Heineken Cup was shown on tonight's show, with the Amlin Challenge Cup being wholly ignored, despite us being told at the start of the season that programme producers the Perform Group had acquired highlights rights to both competitions. I guess it could be a case that they don't actually have the ability to show clips from the Amlin Challenge Cup on ITV4, given the Harlequins v London Wasps and Brive v Munster quarter-finals in that competition are far more relevant to a British and Irish audience than the two all-French Heineken Cup ties are (as good as they both were). In the end, the first chunk of the programme was devoted to Northampton v Ulster, the second two quarters took in Leinster v Leicester with the fourth part consisting of fairly brief edits of the all-French ties. I wonder how their semi-final highlights show will be structured - half an hour each to both of the games, or will action from the Amlin Challenge Cup finally be introduced? |

Three on a match seems a bit too much of a stretch though and with commentators doing about a game every two days they will be very tired by the end of it - 2 out of the 3 are involved in toss interviews, they each have to do around 27 overs of commentary on each match, 1 has to do the presentation and there is also an interview at the end of the first innings. |

I'm guessing this is the result of the IPL taking place directly after the World Cup. Other than the Indian commentators, only Simon Doull, Danny Morrison and Robin Jackman are part of the IPL team that were also at the World Cup and I'm guessing they did not want to reduce the quality too much by going for lesser known commentators this year. Of those on last year's list Andy Bichel is on the Chennai support staff, Dominic Cork is playing for Hampshire and Ian Bishop and Jeff Dujon will presumably be commentating on WI v Pakistan from next Thursday. Mike Haysman was in the press release but has not been seen so far and I wouldn't be surprised to see Pommie Mbangwa and Russel Arnold as part of the team at some point.

Commentating on 27 overs of cricket in a day is hardly a tough job though is it ? When i first started watching cricket on the BBC, Richie Benaud and Jim Laker would share a test match between themselves.

Cotter's a good broadcaster on TV and Radio and I would guess he'll be their main man one day |
