I see tonight BE are using Phil Yates and Alan McManus as commentators. I would have thought Yates, in his journalistic role, would have being in Sheffield but surely all the Eurosport snooker commentary is done from London

I find Brad Hogg and Michael Kasprowicz to be pretty horrendous and Morrison is very annoying on the IPL but oddly I find him OK on Tests and ODIs where he is more, shall we say, sober. The IPL is generally the worst commentated on cricket event and this has been worse this year with some of the better commentators giving it a miss because of the World Cup which has just finished or other commitments.

It will be interesting to see how Isa Guha does. The ITV website indicates that she will have a long stint presenting which is a bit of a risk as she has never presented and only been a pundit a few times (a couple on Women's World T20 last year and one on Day 2 of the IPL this year). I assume she is a trained presenter (women's internationals are still only semi-pros) and if it goes well she could have a long career in presenting after she finishes with cricket, particularly as I don't know of any other English female cricket presenters.

And in boxing...

Bigger's Better V (British Eurosport)

Reporter: Jaime Motta

Khan v McCloskey (Primetime)
Presenter: Jim Rosenthal with Steve Collins and Robin Reid
Commentators: Benny Ricardo and Duke McKenzie
Reporter: Andy Kerr

And to add to the IPL commentating debate, I'll say for the most part it has been very, very poor. Morrison was surprisingly tolerable during the World Cup, but is unbearable during the IPL. The way he uses 'DLF' as a verb is particularly shitty. As in "so and sos just DLF'd him". Brad Hogg's bizarre singing of U2's Elevation after a six the other day almost put me off cricket for life while Siva should still be nowhere near a mic, and Bhogle continues to talk in cliches. Jackers looks absolutely knackered, poor bloke. But that woman they use for some of the interviews is lovely.

But in the West Indies, they have got a really good line-up. Cozier, Raja, Holding, Bishop and Dujon are ace. Though the real highlight today came when Matt Floyd's phone went off on the set during half time.

I'm glad you agree... I think the West Indies commentators are vastly underrated and whilst their production is fairly low budget in comparison to most other nations the standard of broadcasting is excellent. Matt Floyd's phone going off made me laugh too

Did you notice that all three commentators were dropping U2 song titles into the commentary randomly all afternoon?
