Russel Arnold is terrible (although anyone remember the travesty that was Aravinda de Silva's commentary career for Sky on the 2006 tour?). The man they should have got is Roshan Abeysinghe who I have really been impressed by over on TMS, then we wouldn't have to hear Nick (shudders) Knight.........

Home Test matches are usually a Nick Knight free zone

I know I have nightmares sometimes of Sky starting to use that ridiculous three commentator system and hearing "taking up the commentary is Nick Knight, with Bob Willis and Paul Allot".

I can understand where you're coming from with Knight but he really isn't that bad. I always enjoy Willis whether he is on punditry or commentary and Allott is also perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

Nick Knight often comes across as quite smarmy for my liking, not mad keen on him to be honest.

Though you're perfectly entitled to your opinion, I have to disagree. Knight is not just smarmy, but also a pundit who perennially sits on the fence and waffles while Willis has to have the most boring voice on television, he sounds miserable and makes me miserable too. Fine on county cricket, but not test match commentators. You have to compare them with the likes of Atherton for Knight, who is more incisive and knows when to shut up, and Boycott for Willis who is just better in nearly every category if you like the 'controversial opinions' type.

You have been quite rude about a few of the commentators. On the previous page you described Bob Willis as awful but didnt give any construction to your opinion. To quote yourself " you're perfectly entitled to your opinion" but one thing this whole thread has being is constructive and not resorted to just saying - he's crap, he's good etc

Thats true, I just re-read my post and it was far too harsh. I apologise, what I mean't to say was I don't like them, my fault.

Knight is far too earnest for my liking. He makes even the blandest of remarks sound like a portentous grand statement.
There is no light and shade to his commentary.

Having said that he is being compared quite harshly as Hussain and Atherton are peerless and Bumble and Holding aren't far behind.

Surprised to see Holding back in the country commentating so quickly, as he was doing the West Indies v Pakistan match earlier this week. He's great in the studio segments as well, I remember the day the spot fixing scandal broke last year when Sky were on air for about 3 hours after the match finished, and he made it seem like half that.

I don't mind Knight. Yes, he's incredibly smug most of the time, but I think he makes some good points. But I'm probably biased as a Warwickshire fan. And I think Willis is alright, especially on the highlights programmes playing the 'grumpy old man' role with Charlie.

I only saw the first few minutes of Sky's live coverage today, was Wardy there just as a reporter, like he was in the World Cup, and if so, did he do the interviews at the end of the day?

Finally, on Channel 5's now hour-long highlights tonight it was the usual team of Mark Nicholas, Simon Hughes, Geoffrey Boycott and Michael Vaughan.

I'm with you on Nick Knight, it must be a Warwickshire thing!

Yes he did the Interviews at the end of the day too. His role was all rather pointless really. Just seemed like he was there for the sake of it. Given they had 7 other bodies there, others could have easily filled what Wardy did, as they normally do.

Whenever I watch/listen to Nick Knight, either in the commentary box or in punditry, he's always pulling faces and making out everything he says was really hard to work out. But apart from that, he's not too bad.

Good lad and welcome to DS mate

If I am being honest I can't think of anybody on the Sky cricket team who irratates me. I think its a very good line up. Bob Willis does talk too much at times but I like his "grumpy old man" persona. As others have mentioned Athers is the star attraction for me. Very good

I think thats the thing, when you've got people as good as Athers some of the others do fall flat a little. Also it's a hard job, they are on for so long anyone who you might slightly dislike starts to get on your nerves.

ITV bringing in the big names in the studio today. I thought Hussey was quite good, but Nannes seemed a bit dull. Nice that they were both (rightly) critical of Tendulkar's captaincy, I'd have expected them to back him to the hill being current players.

And for the people wondering why there is no Sri Lankan in the Sky commentary box, it was in The Sun this morning that they were going to use Russel Arnold, but his work visa was rejected. I'm guessing immigration weren't too keen on him commentating on the cricket for the next couple of months.

Out of all the Sky Cricket team it's Gower that i find the weakest of the lot, he at times is a muckle slaver and is bland generally. Presenting wise he is stuttery.
