Hi Mystery Girl,

you appear to be a blank slate on the ol' laptop front (meaning you don't have a specific model or anything in mind).

I would suggest reading this PriceRunner review, as it covers various aspects of laptops (like your budget, what you would use it for e.t.c) so I think it would come in handy for you.

Let me knoe if this helps, or if there's anything else I can do.

It depends what you want to use it for, how much you want to pay and what features you want.

I like Acer machines, I have a Acer Aspire 5630 Laptop and it is a good machine, not the most powerful around, but fine for browsing, office work and it can even run Vegas, which is video editing software.

Unless you have any special requirements (playing games, editing video), then just about any laptop from £275 upwards will do the job.
At the cheaper end of the market, there's really not much to choose between different brands. All the components come out of the same factories in the Far East.

Buy on price, from a shop that can offer you help (i.e. a replacement machine) if it goes wrong. Look out for deals in high street shops (Staples, Tesco, PC World, etc.) rather than buying on the internet/mail order. You might save a few pounds buying on-line, but you've got a problem if it breaks. Tesco in particular are very good about replacement of faulty items.
