I found Tosh and Owen more interesting and definitely less irritating than Gwen and Ianto, and was hoping the Mickey and Martha thing was true as we know them and their background already, and in any (probably convoluted) story that's over in a week there may not be time to introduce new characters properly. I'll watch it for Jack but I really do feel having three people to handle the entire 'saving the world and Cardiff' side of things on their own is getting silly. Especially as I'm not too keen on two of them!

I think the main cutbacks were due to there only being one production team running at BBC Cardiff rather than the usual two. SJA just finished filming, Torchwood is beginning, probably running up to Christmas and in January, Doctor Who resumes filming, meaning no room for more of anything else. Previously the productions overlapped when there were two teams.

Why don't we just wait and see what happens before we start judging the programme? It sounds different and exciting and could work really well setting things up for another full series possibly.

Because if people did that they'd have to shut the Internet down.

Lol! It gets my vote for post of the day, too.

I am ecstatic Liz is going to be in this. I loved her in Bad Girls. I'll give this a go just to see her, even if that means I have to put up with that annoying idiot Gwen.

For the (hang on, let me check) 5721st time while people like the police know Torchwood exists they don't know what it actually does.

It amazes me how this incredibly simple fact manages to pass some people by.

hmmm... so they don't know what it does? I know the Welsh police farce aren't exactly known for their great levels of intelligence but a group that always turns up when their is "alien" involvement would not be too hard to fathom out what they did

Have you ever actually watched the series? I'm guessing not as there's never been an episode where the police are shown to know that any of the incidents that TW take off their hands have anything to do with aliens.

The old girl that saw a Blowfish driving a sports car must have been bit suspicious . . .

It's called taking creative licence in a fictional tv show. The truly stupid folk are the ones who take plot holes to heart and let it ruin their enjoyment of a programme

How did stcoop's post warrant THAT response?!

It's true that the police have been on the scene and Torchwood have taken over (Everything Changes, Meat for example) but the police don't know Torchwood are investigating anything extraterrestrial or paranormal. Most people seem to think (Bit like Rhys) that it's counter-terrorism or some type of intelligence a la MI5 or MI6. Let's face it, at the end of the day, it's highly unlikely that a group would be driving round solving X Files, whereas covert surveillance, spy type stuff is fairly possible.

I find you can still dislike characters but still like them being in a program for the reasons you state (you can't just have likeable characters all the time), but I personally did not like Owen in any shape or form and am glad he is gone

A bit of a strong response I grant you, but stcoop does get a bit patronising in some of his responses and seems to take it all a bit seriously - I think its was maybe just a 'red mist descending' moment for the person who put the response

Well, each to their own. *shrug* But then, seeing as I co-run the biggest Burn Gorman site on the web, I am kinda biased.

Don't get me wrong - nothing against Burn Gorman himself, I'm sure he's a lovely chap, and after all, he can only work with the scripts he is given!

He played a marvellous thief/dying man in Eastenders

Nah, that's okay, I know what you meant. Some of his other stuff's been fab.

I could be barking up the wrong tree but in "Sleeper" (Series 2 Episode 2), one of the alien infested agents said that there were others of his kind on Earth waiting to be woken.

Could this be the plot line to this?

Could be, couldn't it. The tone of "Sleeper" was very 24, very race-against-time and would suit a five day, five part serial. If James Moran's back and John Fay (whose "Mobile" was very similar too) then I'm putting two and two together and getting a five part "Sleeper II" !
