I was watching Catherine Tate's performance in Scenes of a Sexual Nature, and it struck me how lucky we have been to have such a good actress play a companion. I've watched Doctor Who since the mid 1970s, and am familiar with previous companions performances, and I don't think anyone comes close to Catherine in ability. Sarah Jane was and always will be my favourite, but I readily accpet that Lis Sladen is no where need the actress Catherine is.
So it would be a shame to go back to the eye candy type.”
I so agree with everything you said, well except for the part about CT in Scenes of a Sexual Nature film, as I haven't seen that, however I have seen her in Bad Mother's Handbook, and she is brilliant in that, she truly is a brilliant actress, and as much as I love both Billie and Freema, they do not reach her calibre of acting....so it will be great to have another actress, who isn't cast for her looks as well, not to say that CT is not pretty, but she defenitly wasn't picked for the dads as they say, she was picked because only she could breath life into Donna.....
I haven't really said a lot about who I think will be the new companion....and as much as I would love Donna to return, I really do not see any of RTD's creations returning.....I feel that in his way, whether we are happy with the conclusions or not, he has put an end to each of the companions stories, and he has given Moffat a clean slate....who I feel, due to his interview at the Comic Con, isn't really interested in bringing back Rose/Martha/Donna/Jack/Mickey/Jenny and so on.....he wants to, as he says, create new things for a new generation of Who viewers....and like I said as much as I would love for Donna to return, I am happy to accept that it will be a completely new start, just as there was in 2005
