Tris removed from AppStore
Izak

Just thought I'd pay tribute to the great Tetris clone Tris which was removed from the AppStore today following legal threats to the developer by The Tetris Company. I only downloaded it myself last night only hours before it was removed and I must say it is a brilliant game.

I personally can't understand Tetris's problem. There are tons of Tetris clones out there, and a few I know of on the iPod Touch yet they've only picked on Tris, why?

One thing I'd just like to ask though, after telling a friend, he told me I should quickly jailbreak my iPod otherwise Apple may well use their 'Application Kill Switch' to remove the game off my iPod. Personally I think this is a load of rubbish, I hardly think Apple would do such a thing unless the application was found to be malicious.

I don't want to jailbreak my iPod but does anyone actually think Apple would do such a thing?

Well I'm sure it would be the same if a Monopoly clone appeared called "Opoly". Once they change its name, they'll have no recourse, as the game format itself isn't protected I don't believe.

Another company are going to release an official tetris game on the app store. Having a free version available on the app store would be bad for buisness. I have Tris, good game but the contols are pain.

There is still a free Tetris game on the iPod: TetoTeto! and that is also a very good clone. I think the official Tetris game is going to find it hard if they charge for it.

I don't think they'd do it unless Apple felt it needed to for legal reasons.
