Doctor who Movie?

You know all the sci-fi shows these days have movies, and although there were DW movies in the past, I wasn't quite fond of them. I think there should be an DW movie, and one where the original producers of the sh0w have a say or EVEN BETTER - produce the movie! Any ideas?

There was something in one of yesterday's tabloids about the BBC trying to get DT to do one DW movie a year as well as a series - this is of course assuming I heard it right.

Just loving the idea of David Tennant and John Simm on the big screen -add Spielberg directing and it would be something massive I think .

How many years would that last? Tennant has done so much for "Who" already and i'm sure he doesn't plan on playing The Doctor forever.

Well i'd imagine any movie were one to happen would be between series 5 and 6?-so really that would just be David going for the Tom Baker record would it not? He's still a young guy and as long as the scripts and characters were exciting and strong enough to give him the confidence that record was possible and he gets to do other projects so it's not all DW for him .. I bet he'd love to go for it.

The thing is were a movie to do well it really could be the making of new who and take the brand to a whole new level.I so hope this story is true and if it is that they are thinking Tennant/Simm -fab pairing and established personalities that would be a good bet for box office success .

Hi! I just joined this forum because I was wondering what anyone might think of the idea (and this is PURELY idle speculation, naturally!!) of a movie about the Last Great Time War. Of course they'd have to get McGann to do that properly, and Moffat would be a definite asset if he were on board.

Would that be a good opportunity to fill in some continuity gaps, give McGann another chance with the role, and perhaps see how some of the old Time Lords met their end?

Or would it just be pants, like the disappointment many people experienced after finally seeing the Clone Wars?

I fear it would be pants

The time war that you imagine in your mind could never be shown on screen, so any movie, episode would be a disappointment IMO also that is the past surely we want Doctor Who to be looking forward.

The Time War wasn't a war like we could comprehend as far as I am concerned. It was a War of Time not just a few missiles and bombs going off! All about paradoxes and time reversing etc etc.
I don't particularly want to see the Time Lords again in a big hurry either as I remember how pants they are!

I can't see the point of a movie right now lets just get on with making the TV show hey!

I can see where your coming from by making that point. Personally , I believe all tv DW since 1963 has been about the Time War in various respects. Certainly since Genesis of the daleks in the mid 70's anyway , which RTD himself has said saw the Timelords casting the first stone by asking the doctor to interfere with the metal dustbins development. All further battles between the doctor and daleks could be seen as escalating towards whatever caused the destrution of the TL's.

and of course the rather potty idea by the Daleks to murder the High Council of Time Lords using duplicates to infiltrate them in Resurrection which originally had very little context and seemed like a tagged on bit of nonsense. Now makes perfect sense thanks to the Time War.

David Tennant + John Simm + Catherine Tate would be amazing!

Doctor Who doesn't have a large enough international (particularly American) fan base to make a big-budget movie likely.

Doing it without Tennant (or whoever is the Doctor at the time it would be made) would be utterly pointless, a way to guarantee certain failure. Only hard-core fans care or even know that McCann played the part for 90 minutes once.
