I've just bought a Samsung mini DV camcorder, and would like to connect it to my PC so I can edit the footage and burn it onto DVD. The camera has a 'DV output' socket but doesn't come with a cable (although there is one for the 'AV output' socket, but I assume that's just to connect it to the TV). Am I right in thinking that I need to get a DV cable with a USB end to connect to my PC? And if I can connect it, does anyone know what programs I can use to edit the footage and burn it to DVD?
I was considering getting a different camcorder which records to SD card as I thought it would be easier to transfer footage to the PC, but I read that the one I was looking at records in MPEG4 format, which apparently is difficult to play back / edit on a PC - am I right to avoid this format?
Thanks
