New HDTV.. no sound via phono? :(

Hi all!

We have just got our new HD Toshiba Regza 37inch TV

The picture quality is great and i have the sound from Sky connected via optical working fine.

However, we have a Wii connected to the TV and hoped that the sound will go to the amp via the TV's phono out (as our last TV does).

However, I have connected the cables but the sound still comes out of the TV's speakers and not the Amp.

I dug out the manual and found the option to choose "amp" and have done so. However, nothing is output on those phono connections?

I also tried with my 2.1 PC speakers and nothing came out of them either.

Could it / is it likely to be a faulty phono port?

If you cant get headphones to work in that phono port, then id say it is - it could also be a faulty cable

The cable came from the old TV (which was working)

But I will test another cable just in case.

---------Edit:

Scrap that, the 2.1 speakers had a different cable and they didnt work either. I think I will buy an extension cable from the Wii's component cable to the amp to get sound.

I'm not sure if its worth kicking up a fuss on a legacy port like that..

The phono's probably output TV audio ONLY, and not external inputs - do they output normal TV sound?.

Fixed it!

made a call to Toshiba support who pointed out I needed to complete the tuning process first.

(I cancelled the setup and tuning wizard as I was connecting via Sky).

yay!

Go to the back of the class!

You should ALWAYS let the auto-tuning finish, it sets up much more than the tuning - much of which you can't even do manually.
