Help setting up my tv/speaker system

Ok having spent all night trying to solve this and no joy i am appealing for help.

My tv is:PS42A456P
My all in one system is: HT-TZ315R

The dvd unit is connected to all the speakers and then connected to the tv by a hdmi cable. I can perform a speaker test which indicates that all the speakers are working.

Try as i might however i cannot get the sound from the tv or the dvd player to come through the speakers. i know i need an optical cable to connect the sky box and the dvd unit but i wouldnt have thought this would effect the dvd or freeview sound. does anyone have an idiots guide to this?

I know i need an optical cable to connect the dvd unit and sky box but that shouldnt stop me being able to watch a dvd using the speakers. I would have thought the built in freeview and analogue signals should work as well.

i was told this was a good combination as they both have samsung anynet+ technology but i just cannot seem to get it to work.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Make sure all cables are plugged in correctly
Make sure its turned to AUX for TV (if plugged in via red and white cables) and it should work (thats how i had my all in one set up)

Try a DVD in it and if you get no sound, then perhaps its a fault in the unit as you SHOULD get sound via a DVD at the least - but check your speakers are plugged in properly too (red to + and black to -)

so do i need to connect audio cables from the dvd unit to the tv in addition to the hdmi cable? That may be where im going wrong.

The speakers all work as i can get sound from them in the test but when i play a dvd the sound still comes from the tv.

I think im missing the glaringly obvious but the manual is about as clear as mud.

once i have the dvd sorted i can move on to connecting the sky box and xbox 360. cant wait for that.

You should plug the red and white cables in to the DVD player aswell as this will carry sound (audio cables) - I never used HDMI direct

Sky HDMI - TV
Audio Cable Sky - DVD
DVD - TV

And it worked perfectly for me - so try the cables first
