Is anyone able to help with hpw best to cat rubbed in cat poo of my new carpet? Cat decided to drag his bum along it last night leaving lovely brown stains. My husband scrubbed at it with a sponge and washing up liquid but I can still see it this morning and smells a bit. We are moving out next weekend to a new home but it's not nice for the new occupiers to have to deal with that.

Any suggestions welcome

cat`s probably got worms.

It means the cat or dog has worms and their backsides are itching like crazy and they dont know how else to scratch it.
Its probably annoying them as much as it is you when they do it.

Get them to the vets now.

Yes its probably worms.
But it could be a number of other conditions involving the cat's pencil sharpener

My cat does this (though she obviously has a cleaner regime with her bum than yours, as she never leaves stains anywhere ) and its due to a condition that ends up with her little bum getting blocked so she starts to back up. She has to go to the vets regularly to have it checked, so its best to get the poor lil thing to the vet ASAP.

Not all the time. My cat did it when she had eaten some wool and only the end was poking out . I had to pull it out

No need to pay vet fees for worming. Just go get some worming tabs for a pet shop .

Certainly right about not going to the Vet for worming tablets. Normally the worming tablets sold by petshops are not the better ones that Vets use themeselves. I get my worming tablets - for my cats that is not me - online. Drontal are pretty good. They are normally about 2 quid each.

As for the carpet some Vets do sell various cleaning stuff that will not only clean the carpet but neutralise the smell too. Soap and water, as I found out myself, can make things worse.

Bloody cats!

Its blocked anal glands or if they are a more chubby moggy that they just can't get close enough to fully clean their own butt. I use something called Carpet Power from Tescos which shifts everything from pet stains to tea stains.

I didn't know that cats did this. My dog used to do it. I used to say that he was 'riding his bike', cus he used to look like he was on a scooter. Haven't seen our cats riding their bikes yet though.

i second this my aunts dog used to do it as it can make them really ill when my cat did it i took him to the vet as it needs help to unblock it

One of mine has done this about twice in the ten years we've had her.

Cats lick themselves to clean themselves. Some will build up hairballs and barf them up as a result of their cleaning habits. But some don't. (I have one of each) The ones that don't, the hair they swallow has to come out somewhere .... and that'll be mixed in with their poo. (Such a nice thread this! )

When they get a wee bit too much hair mixed in with their poo, they'll sometimes do a "bum drag" if the tail end of the poo remains attached after they've been.

This has been the case both times mine has done it. The faint brown streak on the carpet was easily removed using the same squirty Dettol spray we use to clean the bog. No streak and no smell was left. No visits to vets or worming tablets required on either occasion.

Cats. You gotta love 'em!

Thankfully one of ours do it, but we had an old dog that did it occasionally.

He has not done it before. Sometimes when he has been in his litter tray his poo is stuck to his fur and drops off! Girst time last night for dragging himself though. Husband had to clean it off his legs aswell as was still stuck to them.

He may need worming will have to get some tablets

If it was on his legs as well, I'm guessing he might have had a slight touch of the runs?

Our two are indoor cats and get a dry food only diet. Keeps their poo more solid and less smelly so we don't tend to have much in the way of problems like your is having.

If yours is an outdoor cat, I suppose worms are a possibility though. If the runs and bum dragging continues, I guess a visit to the vet would be in order.

Teach it that it's naughty to poo doo on the carpet, so that it doesn't happen again in the future.

Wipe your ass with the cat and see how it likes that.
