What can I use to roll things until I buy a new one?

An empty wine bottle.

Think the wine bottle suggestion is probably the best bet, failing that, if you;ve got any air freshener type sprays, they might do, roughly the same dimensions as a rolling pin. Fly spray might not be a good idea though!

Incidentally, how do you lose a rolling pin? Not the kind of thing that can slip under the sofa cushion!

your roll of kitchen foil is good too. Roll it the right way though so it doesn't unroll

Are you sure you're OH hasn't hidden it

I use a big glass coffee jar, soak off the label,
I have just rubbed over it with flour in the past though and used it with the label still on Pastry didn't stick to it. A jam jar does as well but its trickier as its a lot smaller.
